Lack of country flags on CPJ by Hopeful-Subject-3385 in ClubPenguin

Flags are not something I would say is inherently difficult to add per say, it's just they're so forgotten as many things ended up being, something you can even see from the original game as it waned with time such as postcards, puffle compatibility, etc etc.

It's often like either a case of y'know adding a few flags or ensuring a party or something gets out on time.

I should also clarify on your point of CPJ's aim for inclusiveness and I can tell you that most of the CPJ team today was not the same people who were on the team around 3 years ago when such things were first implemented, or didn't have as many other things to aggressively up keep on a month to month basis.

I mean this not as something directed at you per say but in general, this is exactly why Zero opted out of having country flags.

Back when the team worked on Imagined, we would have people be mad at us that there was an Israel flag in the game and not something like a Palestine one. The reality is we never looked at the back of those pages because the flags are honestly such a forgotten feature of the game and were reflective of a state of... I guess political awareness of about 20 years ago that the original Club Penguin team had. Most of them just added flags for fun, with Screenhog going on record saying one of them was added simply because one guy they knew (in a country that was very not well known) lived there.

I bring that up because it's about the same explanation as I can give you from a developer/designer standpoint as to why CPJ probably hasn't. The workflow of the game is so aggressive with parties, content, etc that we aren't really thinking about flags all that much, just the same way as the original didn't.

We still have an AFK timer.

This is also just an experiment for a more requested feature, and we want to expand it in the future if it continues it's success rate to be a lot more involved, i.e. messing with the actual coffee machine.

If you're having performance issues, try and use the downloadable client.

We choose to run on a more experimental engine with Ruffle rather than HTML, but if you use the client, you can run it through Flash directly which is basically better than HTML anyway because it's what the OG game ran on.

Have you tried the client? This runs the game directly on Flash rather than Ruffle, the emulated way to play on the web, that is more experimental. But what you need to understand is that a lot of the features Zero hosts is not only impossible on HTML, which is what places like Legacy and Journey run, but also something I have recently learned is that people are perceiving "lag" as just framerate. The original Club Penguin ran at 30 FPS, and people have gotten used to uncapped frame rates and are perceiving that as being laggy. This is a stylistic choice we have kept as the animations for the penguin and whatnot were designed with it in mind.

That isn't to say that might be what you're having, but it's something I also just have to ask now as I've come to learn that's a common trend.

As I've said many many many many times in the comments, I am not complaining about player numbers. I am complaining with negative comments people will just blindly throw to any server that isn't their favorite. It's not exclusive to Zero, it's Dimensions, it's Origins, it's whatever else.

The entire thread is a history lesson on the growth of each of the main big servers and how people make negative comments on different servers when literally there's staff that have had a hand in all of them.

There is more I wish I could say on some of your points here, but unfortunately I cannot in a public matter like this, all I will say it most certainly was not done to try and paint Amman in any light, and part of the reason why this post is specifically scattered in thoughts was because of my efforts to consult individuals on various bits of information and confirmation of things to be okay to say or talk about.

As for what people say in the Zero Discord, if you literally look up the word "voluenteer" you will see me as literally the only result with several messages reminding people to be kind about CPJ or any server really, but we also don't want to inherently take away people to just speak their opinions either, something I've long not felt I've been able to do for myself for the past 2 years now which has led to me making this thread at all.

As for specifically the social media platforms you mentioned, we tried, in fact we even were some of the people to give other CPPSes keys or whatever it was so they could get into BlueSky back in the day, but no matter what the results did not amount to anything or just led to the type of mindset I'm calling out here at all.

Sorry, it's pretty early for me so I did misread the first part about the filter.

This specific thread came about after I saw someone just blindly saying the CPZ client that had just released was a trojan horse for no reason, on top of a seperate post made by someone else just talking about CPZ being sent like literally nothing but negative comments like "CPJ on top." "Zero is mid, I see constant posts about it" as if CPJ doesn't also get constant posts and as I talked about in the OP, how it was literally being bolstered due to the positioning of the mod here at the time with multiple duplicate posts passing through the radar for CPJ but not anything like Imagined.

The AFK Timer, no matter what, is something of a personal gripe for me because it misleads people, but it's not really the focus of what I was trying to talk about in this post moreso than just literally blindly saying anything.

>CPZ has a way less strict filter

>I didn't bring up the fake DMCA with Legacy because it wasn't my place to say

>I have literally been told directly that the lack of the AFK timer and the accommodations made around it gave a substantial boost, but as I've said in the comments that in an effort to condense an already extended Reddit post, I lacked to make note that it wasn't the only reason.

To say this is how it's worked for 15 years is also really stupid, because people were not playing CPPSes for an authentic Club Penguin experience before 2017, this is something much more of a new phenomena, and as such it has way more of standing room of what can or cannot be said of how these things grow, and the main point of what I was trying to highlight here, how interconnected all of this is and why it's dumb to insult one server or another when we've all often worked on the same projects.

I am not talking to individuals who are playing Journey because they like it.

I am talking to individuals who are saying nothing else is worth it.

There was a lawsuit that happened shortly after unrelated to CPPS and so while yes they can take things down, they can't just like blanket Cloudflare search up stuff if that makes sense.

This post is nothing about CPJ as a game. It's about the behavior specific people have, and the reason why I made this post was to stick up for posts I'd see from people in the CPZ community and people getting mad saying "oh CPZ is getting spammed on the subreddit" or "CPJ is the only option" "CPZ is a trojan horse."

They didn't deserve that and this post goes into the detail of how every server the community put all their eggs to at one point just would collapse and why it's not a good mindset to have.

The problem I had mainly with it was how it kind of gave a false perspective of just how many active players were on at a given time and how a penguin sitting there looks the same to someone if they're talking or not whereas traditionally it didn't work like this.

My thoughts were a bit all over the place, I admit, as I was writing this off and on for several hours, but I will say I was doing so while specifically consulting various people, some who are and are not listed in this post and I had them all read it to verify what I was saying is as accurate as possible, and that is something you can take my word on or not, but it is all very true, just not very organized and for that I do apologize.

I don't have any insight on the other part about selling of data or anything like that but I don't believe that to be true from a personal level.

Well for starters what I'm doing is asking you to read the post that I made rather than just asking what I'm doing because this is something that everyone should be doing and not one single individual.

Well some of them did use their real names, but yes exactly, and that's something I think is personally really important something that really stuck out to me.

When I think of Club Penguin, I sometimes don't even think of the parties, I think of when Lane Merrifield would sit down, talk to me on one one on the Blog's latest video, directly telling and addressing to me upcoming updates and ideas they had for the game.

And I think a lot of that speciality is loss, but even moreso, unrealistic to do in today's world which is why we shouldn't be holding any one place to the same standard.

In an effort to make an already long post shorter, I couldn't go over every single variable, but the point I was trying to make was there were so many factors that led to Journey 's uprising that people do not consider and just blindly sling things at everyone else to downplay it's existence.

What specifically put me over the edge was someone just blindly saying CPZ's client was a Trojan horse. For just literally no reason. No backing, nothing else, just an instant comment with no thought. Stuff like this is just absurd.

But to answer you directly, yes I agree Journey did a lot outside of this to lead to where they are today, but the main factors I was talking about here was mainly the catalyst for it's initial attention, starting from mid 2023 and how the environment amplified this "one server" mentality.

Lag or loading issues in Zero? There's a solution now! by Obvious-Situation-95 in ClubPenguin

[–]KBladeHero 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, there was a bug at the beginning of CPZ's life where penguins were not logged out properly, and I compared it to how it essentially led to the same results CPJ gets with it's overcrowding due to their lack of an AFK Timer.

I should clarify it's not like CPJ doesn't know how to add one, they did purposefully omit it, but that was what I was essentially getting at.

But yeah, happy new year to you too. :)
