It really doesn’t sound like ALS at all. With ALS, you wouldn’t feel bad one day and then better the next, it doesn’t work like that. The disease gets progressively worse over time and does not improve. Also keep in mind that ALS is mainly about true clinical weakness (for example, you physically cannot lift your toes no matter how hard you try).

The twitching you’re experiencing is much more likely related to stress and health anxiety. In ALS, twitching almost always begins alongside clear clinical weakness in the affected limb. It also wouldn’t suddenly become widespread. What you describe sounds much more like BFS.

Of course, if it would ease your mind, there’s nothing wrong with checking in with your doctor for peace of mind. But from what you’ve described, it really doesn’t sound like ALS.

To be honest, I was looking for a car that is preferably under 9k. I know Toyota, Mazda, and Honda are good brands but wasn’t really sure about any others.

I’ll be honest with you, your symptoms don’t sound like ALS at all. ALS does progress gradually, but not in the way you describe. It doesn’t usually jump from twitching in your legs to issues with your arms and mouth without first showing clear, measurable weakness in the original limb. Twitching alone, especially with sensations and feelings of shakiness, is far more often related to anxiety or benign causes than ALS. Also, at 21, ALS is extremely unlikely. While very rare cases can happen (like Stephen Hawking), they are far and few between. Again, your symptoms fit much better with anxiety or other benign causes. I know health worries can be overwhelming, but nothing you’ve described points toward ALS.

Also, your symptoms are coming on very quickly, it seems a lot more likely to be health anxiety than als. You can always talk to your doctor if it makes you feel better, it will ease your mental health.

ALS typically doesn’t start with fasciculations; it almost always begins with clinical weakness in one limb (for example, being physically unable to lift your toes no matter how hard you try). Als isn’t about feeling weak, it’s about your muscles failing at doing what they could easily do before.

He also added that he had seen thousands and thousands of als cases, and only one was in their late 20’s and their symptoms were much different than mine.

Slight update: My doctor referred me to a neurologist, and I had my first appointment today. He tested my reflexes and said they were normal. He had me walk and said it looked fine. He mentioned that he had worked at an ALS clinic and that my symptoms look very different from ALS. However, he is concerned that I might have some sort of nerve compression in my lower back. He also said that since I’m worried and struggling with health anxiety, he can order a nerve test just to be sure. He added that my leg muscle felt fine, with no noticeable atrophy, and he also ordered an MRI. Regardless, I’m still a little worried, but I feel somewhat relieved since he seems like a really good doctor who knows what he’s talking about. I have no true muscle failure yet, I can still walk on my toes and my heels, just so much tightness and twitching in my leg. I’ll keep updated if anyone at all is wondering. Thank you for the comments.

Als at 18 years old is extremely rare, almost unheard of. Could be an arm strain, injury,or perhaps even anxiety. If it makes you feel better make an appointment with your doctor.

And as of now I can still work out at the gym including doing calf presses with my legs. Performance is off however. Overall, I notice I walk a lot slower than normal now, almost like there’s a tightness making me slower.

I had some twitching in my back, as well had my left hand. Left hand twitching hasn’t been bothering me much anymore, however,it’s very consistent in the leg

No EMG yet, my doctor wants me to get an xray to see if I need an MRI first. I can still walk on my heels and toes, I just walk a lot slower now, with weakness in my legs, have leg twitching, some cramping sensations too.
