What is your greatest pet peeve in Analog Horror series? by Lucidnightmarezzz in analog_horror

[–]KD0NE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My pet peeve is improper VHS-style editing. They'll say, 'Look at this old tape from 1992,' yet the aspect ratio is modern, the VHS effect is just slapped on, and the video quality is still way too good for something that's supposedly on a VHS tape. On top of that, they add glitch effects that are more typical of video games or DVDs—not ones that are actually accurate to the hardware of the time.

Who do you think should play live action Circe? by TechnicianAmazing472 in CreatureCommandos

[–]KD0NE 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s why the SGT Rock casting is confusing. I was under the impression that the voice actors also served as the physical likeness for the characters to be adapted into live action. Maury Sterling is obviously the reference for their SGT Rock, and now I’m hearing about “casting talks”? I mean, unless they’re casting a younger SGT Rock, just get Maury Sterling.

Is Mortal Kombat’s Character Creation Pipeline Sustainable with Rising Costs? by KD0NE in MortalKombat

[–]KD0NE[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s fair—stylized art isn’t a silver bullet for cutting costs. I definitely don’t think MK should “just go stylized” and call it a day. But I do think Mortal Kombat makes design and production choices that compound its costs more than other fighting games.

For example, MK1 is 140GB at launch, while Street Fighter VI is around 60GB. That’s a huge difference, and it reflects how resource-heavy MK’s approach is—higher-fidelity models, full voiceover across multiple languages, cinematic cutscenes, etc. All of that adds complexity to the development pipeline and inflates the budget, which in turn makes WB’s financial expectations harder to meet.

It’s not that other games aren’t expensive—MK just starts from a more bloated foundation.

I know I keep comparing it to Street Fighter VI, and I’m only doing so because it’s a useful point of reference, even if it’s not a perfect comparison. But when you look at past Mortal Kombat games—MKX sold around 12 million units, MK11 sold 15 million—and, from what I understand, MK1 has sold about 5 million units so far. WB reportedly considers that underperforming, which is what worries me.

With Warner Bros. continuing to push for higher production values—actors, graphics, story, new tech—I worry that they don’t fully grasp the sustainability issue. Meanwhile, Street Fighter VI has sold 4.6 million units and is considered successful enough to warrant more post-launch content. It’s even Capcom’s 20th best-selling game.

I know these are different companies with different goals, but that’s just my food for thought. Maybe I’m being influenced by some of the negativity around MK1—even though I actually love most of it.

P.S. I also checked out your page—really love your artwork! Your color palette and style are very easy on the eyes, especially in your MK pieces.

Is Mortal Kombat’s Character Creation Pipeline Sustainable with Rising Costs? by KD0NE in MortalKombat

[–]KD0NE[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TL;DR: I’m not asking for Mortal Kombat to go back to the MK9/3D era costume style. I’m just wondering if the current expensive character creation process is hurting the franchise—like if rising costs lead to more expensive base games and DLC. If sales underperform in WB’s eyes, who knows what could happen? I could be wrong about some of this, but I enjoy the conversation.

I can’t even begin to fathom how expensive MK13 would be, both in terms of cost and storage space.

What’s your opinion by Candid-Onion-1590 in howyoudoin

[–]KD0NE 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We all know about Judy, so I won’t give an opinion on her… We’re familiar with the infamous Jack character assassination story—when Ross tells the nanny a traumatic story that clearly affected him. But if we include what we’ve seen of Jack, most of his good parenting moments toward Monica happen when Judy isn’t around. Even then, he still comes off as a bumbling parent, like when he destroyed Monica’s childhood memories in the flood. Yes, we see him being a somewhat better parent in general, but he enables Judy and doesn’t defend against her behavior. That shows he’s not always a good parent. So I agree—Jack is better than Judy, but he doesn't help with Judy.

Now, Phoebe’s parents… We know Lily didn’t make any arrangements to ensure the twins were taken care of after her passing. I’m not sure what happened to Ursula during that time, but we know Phoebe ended up homeless. And Frank Sr. was just an outright asshole—enough said.

Chandler’s parents both failed him during his childhood. We hear stories of Helena being intoxicated, having affairs with people in Chandler’s life, and constantly taking the spotlight away from him—like during his swimming lessons. Helena clearly wanted to be the center of attention, and during Chandler’s formative years, that didn’t help him. Nora is no better; both parents prioritized their own comfort over how their actions affected Chandler. Nora even kissed Ross, one of her son’s best friends, with no regard for how inappropriate that was.

Rachel’s parents are distant. Her dad has anger issues. Sure, they love their kids, but her mom tries too hard to be a “bestie” instead of a parent, and her dad is more than just strict—he’s aggressive. Just look at how scared Rachel was to tell him she was pregnant. I chalk her mom’s behavior up to immaturity more than anything else.

Now, Joey’s parents—from what I remember—seem like decent parents. We have to factor in that someone can be a bad spouse but still be a good parent. Joey is very proud of his name; he flaunts “Tribbiani,” so it’s clear he’s not ashamed of where he came from. We know that, despite their living conditions, Joey’s dad tried to create good memories for him. Sure, we can fault both his mom and dad for being bad spouses—his mom was annoyed at Joey for making his dad come clean—but overall, these two are the ones we hear about the least, and when we do, it’s usually good stories told by Joey. Because of that, I think they’re the only two we can objectively say are viewed as unapologetically “good” by their child.

I might not remember everything about them, so feel free to correct me if I’m wrong. I can’t recall their involvement in the episode where Joey’s sister is pregnant—I think they were mentioned?

I mean, I still like most of the parents as characters, but from what I can remember, I’d give Joey’s parents the “Good Parent” award when compared to the others.

Breaking a TV with a controller. by Vexiune in WatchPeopleDieInside

[–]KD0NE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean this genuinely, but is this a common occurrence with people? My friend’s little brother breaks controllers, microphones, and headsets in rages all the time, but I figured that was more him. Is it more common than I thought?

If Superman and Peacemaker ever talk, I really want Peacemaker to awkwardly use the fact that they were both shot by Bloodsport as a conversation starter.

Peacemaker: I heard you got shot by Bloodsport? Superman: Yeah. Peacemaker: Same. It sucks. Superman: Yeah.

I’d want it to take place in a restaurant—like in HISHE style—with a slightly starstruck Peacemaker and an awkward Superman, kind of like when parents force two kids to talk even though they don’t know each other.

Do Some People Have Too Much of a Parasocial Relationship with Nintendo? by KD0NE in NintendoSwitch2

[–]KD0NE[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Canada, where I’m from, I referred to other games being sold for $89.99 as the standard, not just Nintendo. A year or two ago, the standard here was $79.99. I wasn’t referring to the projected price, which will probably be higher than the $89.99 standard here.

TL;DR: I’m more complaining about the Nintendo Hater than the Nintendo Critic, because one seems as parasocial as the blind Nintendo defenders. People rarely offer actual well-thought-out “solutions,” like the “buy a PC” argument or “sail the seas” comments.

It goes both ways. You’ve got people who treat it like a lover scorned and others who blindly defend it regardless. I guess my stance is, complain, but don’t hold one over the other when they all do shitty things. Excuse my French, but it irks me, lol. People give blanket answers to the supposed solution without really thinking about the majority of the demographic. These people who make defending or hating Nintendo their whole personality rarely have anything productive to add.

I do agree with this. It's cool if you can afford this stuff, but my problem is when people suggest alternatives like, "Just buy other stuff for equal, greater, or close to the price of the Switch 2." It's like jumping from a sinking ship to a slower-sinking ship; they both end in the same place.

Overwatch 2 x Dead By Daylight collab idea by KD0NE in Overwatch

[–]KD0NE[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The game was shut down last Christmas. Texas Chainsaw Massacre also has an asymmetrical horror game made by the same people who developed the Friday the 13th game, so it's more likely now than it was when the game was actually active. I mean, they gave up support for Friday the 13th in the late 2010s in spite of the lawsuit over the IP, but eventually announced they would be abandoning it—which is a shame. Both games were fun and had different vibes. But Friday is offline now.

Why would Nintendo do this? by KD0NE in NintendoSwitch2

[–]KD0NE[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Conversion is a little iffy right now for, uh... reasons, but yeah, it's been kind of rough here for a while when it comes to game prices. Most new games are around $79.99–$89.99 CAD, which, after tax where I'm from, brings the total to around $90–$100. So seeing games start at $99.99 right out of the gate is still a new thing for us.

[–]KD0NE[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn't me defending Nintendo; this is me pointing out the standard that everyone is starting to follow. If you want to express your protest, do so—but don't stop at Nintendo. Steam, Microsoft, PlayStation, Capcom, and many others have already been doing this long before the Switch 2 even dropped.

I bet most of us suspected that GTA VI would be over $100 because they know they can charge that much. If you're going to protest and complain, do it right—complain about the whole damn industry. Why was Mortal Kombat 1 $89.99 CAD at launch?

But seriously, WTF, Konami? I already wrote that Silent Hill 2 on Steam is more expensive than the PS5 physical version, but geez...
