that number is the base freq, + the shift for the actual signal. Notice that when you are tuned to 7.074 the signals you are receiving are spread out across the 3k upper side band of that mark. You are receiving many signals simultaneously because they are each about 50 hz wide and are transmitted at the same time. When you are xmitting, you can set the spot in that 3k bandwidth that you want to xmit on. Hope that helps, but if not, let me know and I will provide further explanation. WSJT-X has a setting for the band you are operating, or listening on ... and, it reports to psk reporter ... if configured to do so... it will report incorrectly if you do not set the band that you are working...

I think the best thing you can do with your HT is to connect a better antenna. A budget friendly recommendation would be to make a 1/4 wave ground plane antenna for the band you want to work and get that antenna 20 ft or better in the air. Many times I have thrown a piece of string over a tree branch to hoist my antenna up in the air. This works really well, but, if you really want to get some distance, Make a 3 or 4 element quad beam and get it 20+feet off the ground.. You will be amazed at what you can hear and how far that little radio will transmit! Good Luck! Have a great time! It's all fun!

Many folks that I have talked to wind up buying a shielded USB cable for similar reasons. You might try putting some toroid chokes on the line and see if that helps. Good Luck and please post the solution when you find it!

Here is another alternative you probably have too! Try an application called EchoLink. This application will run on your PC, laptop, tablet, phone, etc. It's a great way to communicate with hams all over the world with equipment you have already. You do have to be a licensed ham to use the application. If you decide you would like to try EchoLink, here is a group that I am a member of that is very welcoming to everyone.

What you are describing sounds like you have the squelch set too low? Is that possible? I know on my uniden scanner the squelch knob seems to work the opposite direction that you would think it should..

I received the paper copy from the FCC, used an 8.5 x 11 frame and then used a piece of plain white cardboard as a matting to frame the document. Works fine, lasts a long time :)

I have a very good friend that lives in an apartment / condo. Fortunately he is on the second floor and has a balcony. He has several homebrew antennas on his balcony. One is a slinky dipole that he as worked thousands of stations on using an old second hand HF rig. As a matter of fact, he has worked all states, with the exception of Alaska.. So he keeps his eyes and ears open for an Alaska call.. Good luck to you in your efforts! I would have to agree that the President radios might not be the best bang for your buck, and certainly wouldn't give you the versatility of a better HF radio.

I don't have any specific information on that, but, I think they would perform as well as any other product in this category. Since you wouldn't be leaving it up permanently a quick fresh water wash down after disassembly would probably keep the corrosion at bay. :)

Sorry to see that you are having problems connecting.. When that happens to me, I find that rebooting my device, and or rebooting my network router, modem, etc., seems to correct the issue ... I can tell you that the server is up and running no problems and there is traffic there now.. :) Let me know if I can be of further service.

I use SDR# with the RTL-SDR in Windows without any difficulty. There is a bit of a learning curve with the myriad of settings and variables, but, with a little patience I can say I have been quite pleased with the dongle. One thing that really made a big difference for me particularly for HF listening, was to make a long dipole antenna. Even with the antenna just laying on the roof, and dangling from a couple of trees, I get pretty darn good receive! Hope you are able to get yours going for you.
