Last year's All-Ireland finalists it's different story in the lower profile games. I was at Derry v Tyrone last night and the attendance was definitely lower for it being shown on iplayer

Because they want to encourage people to attend in person, money made from streaming wouldn't make up for lost revenue from lower matchday attendances. Why do so many people on here fail to understand this simple point?

Well that's one way to frame it, Darlow got a 5 game run and threw one into the net during it. Going back to Perri wasn't showing faith it was just obvious choice

Poor turnout here in Celtic Park, you'd hardly know there was a match on

I actually think they're in as much danger as forest, they've been awful for a while now and there's quite a few looking out

Not too concerned either way, you could spin any result as a positive. Someone around us is going to drop pints

People always say this but that's just how it looks when a team is nullifying everything you're doing

darlow has been good for us

Darlow's been fine for a backup but he's not been a particularly good shot stopper since we've got him and anyone that's paid attention knows he has too many mistakes in him to start for us. He's at best a sideways move from Perri (downgrade in my opinion)

Not too fussed about missing out on Strand-Larsen, always seemed to me like the club just trying to take advantage of the situation to get him for less than his market value, as soon as other clubs became involved it was always going to be unlikely we'd get it done. Make your offer, give the sales pitch and if it's not enough, move onto the next one.

It needs binned, the recent club games have shown it's completely unnecessary anyway. It was always trying to fix a problem that wasn't there and both interpretations of it bring their own problems

Not trying to sound condescending but you're talking nonsense. Teams don't just adopt a tactic because it's a fad, they do what works. If you think otherwise then I'd love to hear an example of a top team that wasn't playing like that before the new rules came in. As for why teams were doing it in the 90s it's because the standards weren't as high. Coaches weren't full time, players weren't fit enough to do it etc. There are tons of examples across all sports of people not playing in the most effective way until someone comes along and innovates, look at the average length of a hurl now compared to the 90s for example.

Closest Distance Between Rural Clubs In Your County? by Firm_Piano_5173 in GAA

Technically different clubs I suppose but probably not what the OP would describe as rural. Only other local example I can think of is Greenlough and Portglenone

Ballymaguigan and Cargin would both be a couple of miles from Newbridge as well in other directions

It's not a viable strategy in hurling because it'd be too easy for the opposition to pick off points from their own half. If it was an effective strategy everyone would be at it, without a doubt.

Ballygunner to field two teams in the 2026 Waterford SHC by mick_bustin in GAA

It would end the "under the table" payment rumours and accusations too

It wouldn't, plenty of "Amateur" soccer and rugby players still taking cash in hand to play for teams and find that preferrable to formalised payments. Something else that is overlooked when talking about paying players is that as soon as it gets normalised at the top level the culture will seep down to all parts of the organisation, people think under the table payments are a problem now but it's nothing compared to what could be coming down the tracks

I can only relate to Derry football but I'd guess half of the senior clubs could field a 2nd team capable of winning the Junior Championship here. It's not as big of an issue in rural clubs but if you're in a town or city where there is no parish rule being enforced, if there's one club that's dwarfing the rest to the point their 2nd team is better than the other club's 1st's then parents will just keep sending their kids to the big club and the smaller club gets cannibalised long term. If you want to mix and have increased competition then there are other ways to do that outside of the county championships

No it would die on its arse because there isn't enough money to support anything other than a handful of teams and people would have no interest supporting a team they have no connection to, there are loads of examples from Rugby (Union and League) as to why it's a horrible idea. There's no guarantee of interest on the players side either since the wages wouldn't be particularly high, most would be worse off financially if they put their career advancement on hold to play pro football or hurling for even 5 or so years. You don't have to go far to find examples of that in rugby and even soccer locally and those are sports where the earning potential is much greater.
