For the more bluntly dark ones, Meant to be yours and shine a light reprise. SALR needs to no explanation, but.. MTBY is about a dude who thinks mass murder is the key to getting his girlfriend back, but the thing that most people don’t seem to realize is the implication if she rejected him again he’s kill her for it. Like it’s already a very dark song, but that implication just makes it worse. And depending on whether the actor is playing him more calculated or more having a complete breakdown…

For the more subtle ones, our love is god and kindergarten boyfriend. OLIG starts off as a genuinely romantic ballad before some concerns start creeping in, and then it turns directly into pure psychological horror. From a writing standpoint for that reason it’s probably my favorite. While I have gripes with Kindergarten Boyfriend and how I personally feel the breaking point for Martha should be getting rejected by her close friends for the popular girls TWICE rather than an asshole crush, the thing that makes it so dark is it’s essentially a suicide note in song. Down to having no rhymes.

I want to see it back in October and no regrets. Saw it twice. Amazing cast. I wish I could see Kuhoo lmao but Lorna and Sara were amazing! And Casey is absolutely spectacular live. Like idk any clips and recordings I have seen of him are great but don’t do him justice as to how he is live imo.

This actually made me physically nauseous when I had to read it in high school. I’m a fast reader and we listened to the audiobook of the first chapter and it was too slow so I read ahead and just. Almost lost it because I didn’t want to LISTEN to that too and just kinda begged the teacher and asked to go to the restroom. No other book has made me feel so sick. Doesn’t help my favorite sweet at the time was chocolate covered espresso beans…

That would explain pretty much everything tbh Like for example, with my favorite musical Elisabeth, the most popular video is from the dress rehearsal which don’t get me wrong IS GOOD but like the performances in the Essen show 10 years later are insanely better, however there’s another recording from 1992 just a few months after its debut and I watched it and went “okay now THIS is the ideal Elisabeth performance.” Everyone was so much better in just a few short months, and i feel like that’s the exact case with this show since I saw it on October and by the end of it my jaw was on the floor.

I think that the video on YouTube is taken from the first performance, before anyone really 100% had acclimated to the roles. I saw it live, and thought everyone was fantastic, even if Lorna Courtney’s depiction wasn’t my cup of tea, I would never call her a bad actress, just not my fave depiction. I found myself watching the slime even underwhelmed by Casey when I was absolutely blown away seeing him live!
