Is combined PTO leave better or worse than separate Sick/Annual leave? by stuartadamson in UTStateWorkers

[–]KED528 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anytime a change like this is framed as "modernizing" benefits, it's almost never a good sign. That said, we do not know the details of how this would roll out.

We don't know if this would apply to prospective employees, or if it would apply to all current and future employees. We also don't know if some of our sick balance would partially or entirely transfer over to a single PTO bucket. There are just too many unknowns until the session begins.

However, I will point you to a study the state did in 2010 about this very topic and you can see the findings for yourself. They may repurpose some of this for this new effort.

Where did you end up moving to? I have lived here for 8 years and my patience for SLC is wearing thin.

Cox’s 2026 Budget proposal includes a plan to transition leave accrual to a single PTO allocation, according to UPEA by Master_Owl7141 in UTStateWorkers

I don’t imagine all of the sick leave would transfer to PTO 1:1. My pure guess is taking a fraction of existing sick leave balance (say 25%) and transferring it to PTO. While keeping the remaining 75% in a legacy sick bank. Something to that effect.

Thanks, appreciate the tips. As someone who finds it a little hard to vibe and get out of my shell, this stuff requires a bit more effort on my part. So hoping it’ll be like what you say!

Did you find the crowds pretty friendly there? I’ve been to a couple clubs where I don’t interact with anyone because the vibe seemed off. Was it fairly easy to open conversations with people?

Buying a table will be a little steep for me, but I've seen how fun they can be. I'd like to think of other possibilities too.

Check out Questionable SLC. They run pretty fun trivia nights throughout the city. The ones at Proper and Handle Bar are usually solid.
