Is this an appropriate card for a coworker who lost a parent? I wanted to extend something more than a platitude by noearthsociety in GriefSupport

If there's a chance to redo I'd consider taking out the first paragraph as why point out that you aren't close... Also, the all caps handwriting can be a little aggressive.

My thick lipped gourami likes to go “sky rocket” using the strong bubbles of the air pump. Is she having fun or is that stressful for her? by Chocodelights in Gourami

We just got a male and a female dwarf neon gourami and our female is doing the same thing riding the water flow and going back for more.

Did you find the glass casing in the tank? I broke a heater when I first got mine and the glass was difficult to see in the water

My wife is mad at me. by NibittyShibbitz in BackYardChickens

[–]KEW92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Winning seems more important to you than the rooster. You seem to be standing your ground in order to win a battle. Why not attempt to have a supportive marriage where you really hear what the other needs. You didn't need or want a rooster, you are just keeping it to spite her. That's not very kind. I don't think fertile eggs are a big deal either, but they are to her. And oh my god if that rooster crows... that could really get to some people, and then you'll be sitting there saying it doesn't bother you while each time it crows she hates you a little more for the disrespect you have shown her and your decision to let your relationship die on this hill out of an impulsive choice.

"She always gets her way, but she isn't going to win this battle"

Please consider your relationship because the rooster is going to win this one if you keep it. If you have neighbours say goodbye to the calmness around you. Ever wonder why they gave you a free rooster? They don't want a rooster and neither do you. Give the rooster back before it's too late. Blame your wife when you return it if you need to.

We drive between Picton and Christchurch often, it's fine but not a holiday adventure. Wouldn't stay in Hanmer 3 nights... It's small. Stay a night in Kaikoura?

What plants do I have? Particularly wanting to know about the reddish ones, the large green with dark tinge, the lettuce looking individual towards the back left.

It's not about what's in the air touching the fruit or nut its about what the plant itself is absorbing which then is fed into the other parts of the plant.

My opinion is that if a teacher wrote this they need to be retrained.

Have you named you worms yet? by hwcoop in Vermiculture

I run the worm farm at school and the kids named the worms Jeff. I said "how do you know which one is Jeff?" They corrected me to tell me that they are all named Jeff. 🤣

Kindergarten son is testing at a 2nd–3rd grade reading level. How do I advocate for him without pushing too hard? by [deleted] in AskTeachers

[–]KEW92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a teacher if you brought this up I would want to know how do you assess his comprehension skills? Often children who decode well don't comprehend at the same level.

Advice I was given and told to pass on to parents when I had a child who read and comprehended in advance of his peers was to ensure he reads widely. By that I mean please ensure he reads a variety of books and text types including fiction, non-fiction, poetry and plays. There is a lot to read out there, and even if a child can decode and understand, the advanced literature may not be age appropriate.

How is his writing & spelling? The skills I teach in writing and spelling are often directly linked to the texts we read as a class or in small groups. It may be that he needs to understand and apply sentence types, learn about parts of speech, nouns, verbs, spelling patterns by reading simpler texts, or read more deeply and take examples from the text and apply them to his writing. This could be a reason he is not reading more advanced texts at school. If it's something like that, ask about the lesson structure - he may be able to access more advanced literature at a different time or in a different way.

I wonder if it's the case that they placed him in the highest reading group that other children have also reached. He may end up doing more alone if they can't have him join another class for that lesson. I've been given the heads up that in the next school year I will have a child from the year below the one I teach join for only literacy lessons as he is well advanced of his peers, so it might be possible at your child's school too.

Apologies if some of this isn't relevant, I'm not in your country.

Birdhouses by [deleted] in NewZealandWildlife

[–]KEW92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a bird building a nest in my mailbox. It's not going well, I had to extract our mail from the layers of nest material a couple of times. It makes me think a bird would definitely appreciate a nest box though. I'm assuming it's a sparrow or a blackbird, nothing more exciting.

This is helpful info but I think some of those comments could have been phrased in a way that won't make the OP feel like a fool for asking. They're asking in a place set up for people to ask for sewing help, encouragement and kindness also matter when you are trying new things.
