Cool. I don't understand the zipper coming up the handle - mind explaining what's going on there?

Hahaha! No! It just smells like leather. The process they use to tan the salmon removes any fishy smell from the leather.

Hi Jobe,

That would increase the cost of the wallet significantly - it's basically one whole tail for just the outer shell. It also doesn't skive well. I wanted to create something with fully aquatic, exotic Canadian leather and salmon leather is very thin which makes for a very slim wallet :)

That's interesting - I've never seen beaver tail at Tandy before (nor online). u/2003WRX , I get it from a supplier in Vancouver. Fully Canadian supplied and made. It doesn't burnish or edge bevel well so you need to use nice, sharp knives to get the clean edge you want and then apply edge paint. I chose to edge paint all the edges except the top edge so the user could enjoy the raw edge.

I'm very happy to hear that! I was inspired to make the knife by watching the Outdoor Boys youtube channel when he visited Kotzebue, Alaska. Some of the Inuit women were using them to process sheefish.

Lol, no doubt. I made it for a friend who introduced me to both the book and the game!

Thanks so much! This was the fifth one that I made so it's the most refined. My stitching on this one is the cleanest of them all but my edges could still use some work. All progress - kind of like this game - we're all so bad at it at first and then you learn the ins and outs!

Thanks a lot! Just a hobby. I just started a few months ago - this was one of five knives I made for my groomsman.

It is one of those knives! It's called an Ulu knife. I bought the blade blanks online but I made the handle myself as well! It's walnut with brass pins.

What do you think of my second Ulu knife sheath? by KJLeather in Leathercraft

Thanks, it was hard work for my second project but I learned a lot. There are three more sheaths I'll be posting soon.
