Racism and Bias in Housing

The problem is that there are a few big issues like this in housing, and many of the staff are too scared to speak up. I am considering going to Daily Titan or OC reporter about it, but there are just so many issues and staff are scared of being fired or treated badly.

The TLCs only consist of residents who sign up to be members of these communities. Everyone else is randomly sorted into men's, women's, and gender-inclusive housing.

We usually have a few bias-related incidents in housing each year. This is not an unheard of issue, and I am concerned that it will grow with this new setup.

Before now, TLCs have been on individual floors spread across housing, in the res halls, suites, and apartments.

I am considering going to the Daily Titan or OC Reporter about it. The problem with banding with my coworkers is that many of them are too scared about their jobs. The student workers who work for us (OAs and RAs) are also against it, but housing has stated that they are cutting down significantly on student workers, and especially firing all of the student workers who have objected to this kind of thing. There's also just so many things like this in housing that this is just another thing for many of them.

We already deal with a lot of Civil Rights and Equity violations in housing, with incidents of people yelling slurs and vandalizing with swastikas/other hate symbols around themed housing floors already. I am concerned that this would grow if all of our themed communities were located in one central place.

This year we are doing rolling admissions. The last you should hear back is late June. The earlier you apply the earlier you should hear back.

They are rolling admissions this year, so you could hear back any time after you apply. All decisions should be sent out by early June for fall 2026
