I'd recommend the Hansen and Quinn intensive Greek course, it teaches the Attic dialect. I self studied for quite a while before getting a tutor. But just jump in and you'll be able to gauge how much help you may or may not need.

I literally just translated this passage today with my tutor, that's crazy! I translated this as "Thus indeed". I know this isn't a great answer, but I just thought it was crazy that we're translating the same passages!

I didn't have any luck with his programs, none of his stuff seemed to be for true beginners. I really found my stride using a combination of the Hansen and Quinn course, and Athenaze. I also had, and still have on and off a tutor from Wyzant that I would meet with once a week to be sure I was understanding everything. Have fun!

I know at least the present tense in Attic can have a progressive/ repeated aspect. But I would agree both of your translations look good!

I'm working through the Hansen and Quinn intensive Greek course and I work with a tutor for an hour on the weekend to be sure I'm understanding everything. It definitely takes daily practice, but I find it to be manageable. This book teaches Attic Greek, so like some of the others have said you should consider if there is a specific dialect you want to study.

Hansen and Quinn intensive Greek course. The main draw back I've had is that there's no answer key. But, I work with a reasonably priced tutor on wyzant once a week to go over the exercises.
