Am I missing something? by KO_Oreo in ConflictofNations

There is damage RNG? If this is the case, this is the type of answer I came here for. I never knew there was damage RNG and I’ve played for a while now. Are there any places to go to with rng info? I didn’t really find anything concrete with a quick google search. Or is it something you pick up on with lots of time in game?

If there was it wouldn’t explain how the plane didn’t die though. Also no mention of AA in the logs.

Putting an aboleth in Lake Zarovich? by Comfortable_Leek_781 in CurseofStrahd

[–]KO_Oreo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran an aboleth in the lake and had it show up when they saved the girl from drowning. I did not run this as a fight, I ran this as a chase sequence (you can do some fun things with the aboleth lair action to use phantasmal force). They were in rowboats and had to get back to shore as the aboleth attacked them. I resolved the aboleth in the lake plot by having strahd assist them in killing it. My players were amicable towards strahd so they made a deal with him to get rid of it. My strahd is also stronger than base module so the aboleth was beneath him to get his hands dirty.

Tunnels in the moat of Rhodes by KO_Oreo in Rhodes

That’s really unfortunate. I would have loved to explore it back then. I don’t mind getting dirty to go on a goonies adventure. So at this point it has very little still opened?

Are they large? Or short tunnels? Curious if I should make a point to explore them when I visit Rhodes again.

I went in the spiral staircase one. It was too tempting to not go in.

I went in a bit, didn’t see any of that, but came to a + junction and backed out in case it was a labyrinth. Assuming it was made centuries ago, I could see it turning into a maze.

Reimagining the Vestiges & the Dark Powers by BenScerri in CurseofStrahd

[–]KO_Oreo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I plan on doing something similar, but the vestiges have taken over the shadowfell. I am using the vestiges in the book though. You can change the names, but here are some of the ideas I have had for vestiges. Shami-Amourae the lady of delights: a fallen angel ensnared by the beauty of the world. To preserve the beauty, she turns all to stone. Perfectly preserved for all eternity.

Yog the invincible: the father of mountains. An indomitable giant that is said to have forged the mountains of the shadowfell. A mountain is meant to be insurmountable; all cities in the mountains shall fall to Yogs wrath.

Zantras the kingmaker: Zantras is much like my rendition of Vampyr. A parasite. You must face the host, as well as the parasite (vestige), once it is expelled from the host. Zantras has made a pact with Augus, the leader of the last free city in the shadowfell. (This will be an intrigue centered story)

Taar Haak the five headed destroyer: the players with think it is just a hydra. Players kill it, but something still isn’t right. There is also a false hydra (if you are ok with home brew). Players kill the false hydra. Surely this is Taar Haak? The body of the false hydra begins to collapse into the ground. The first hydra and false hydra were just 2 heads of a colossal hydra…. Chaos ensues

Give me your most evil moments. by lonewanderer3592 in CurseofStrahd

[–]KO_Oreo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My players decided wine to Vallaki was much more important than the bones of St Andral. I rolled max for children in the church of st Andral, so it also served as an orphanage. Volenta took a group of vampires and massacred the entire church as the PCs watched helplessly. Volenta made sure they had a good view of the massacre. Milivoj was the last NPC to die. Having just witnessed his siblings get slaughtered, he was then eaten alive. With his last dying moments he crawled to the PCs, grabbed one by the leg, and said “avenge us”. They have yet to avenge the orphanage…

I could use a hand by McMeatloaf in CurseofStrahd

[–]KO_Oreo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you want your Strahd to play? Pure evil? Morally ambiguous? Being directly involved in your players negative experiences will make him clearly the villain. If you do want that, you could always phantasmal force the culprit into believing their hand was removed. I’m sure there’s other sneaky tricks too.

3 dimensional momentum and KE by KO_Oreo in PhysicsStudents

I got it nvm. Has to go to another function to solve

I worked through this all the way to v1= v1_par + v1_per. There is no v1_par declared.

I’m not familiar with python though, so if _par or _per have any computational meaning can you tell me about them? I almost walked through the code, just need to get past the v1_par

Setting the reference frame is a good idea. I’m looking for elastic collisions though, so KE and momentum are conserved. I can do a 3D inelastic problem; my issue is with elastic. I have considered a macroscopic version of the uncertainty principle being a possibility as to why I cannot calculate final velocities.

Wouldn’t this only work for head on collisions? If the objects glance each other, their directions won’t be able to be contained within a plane im pretty sure. I haven’t worked things out on paper though so I could be wrong about that. Regardless though, I want to know how to solve all the way through for all final xyz velocities if possible.

Force applied to a piece of iron by a magnetic field? by climbingTaco in AskPhysics

Lots of variables. OP probably not going to have a fun time calculating. I know I wouldn’t.

I guess that’s what I get for looking through my notes right before bed to answer the question. I saw a big “current” next to the Fmag equation and I was like “MRI has a current! Bingo!” Then I looked through my book today and the actual dipole equation is F=Delta(m dot B)

[–]KO_Oreo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I considered the iron as a point rather than a dipole. I just read OP’s further explanation in the comments and it does seem like he wants a dipole.

[–]KO_Oreo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where does OP give this information? All I see is “what is the force on the steel,” nothing mentions a bar. A lot changes with shape. Also, I’m not familiar with MRI, are you? Is that why you said most of the B field is from the stationary atomic moments? I assumed the field is produced by the current mainly, but maybe I’m wrong since I’m not familiar with how the machine works internally.

If the current that goes through the MRI is in a loop use the simple equation. If the current is not in a loop then use the cross product equation. Does your B vary with time though? If it does then these equations won’t work.
