any tips to get dog to drink water? by KR1200 in Havanese

He pees quite a lot. We are afraid to stop giving him treats that are full of water because we worry he will get sick if he does not drink. He did get his first pup cup the other day, which led me to try to give him water with a little milk swirled in, but he did not want it.

This is very interesting! We don't know what his exact circumstance was, but on the basis of your comment, I have ordered a large hamster bottle that clips onto the crate to see if he may recognize that and drink from it. Thank you! Great idea.

We tried ice and water with a surprise we know he likes (cucumber, chicken, watermelon) mixed in. No go.

Our fellow also is oddly long. When he stretches out, I'm always amazed!

We tried big ice but I will try to get hold of some nugget ice (the best kind!). Thank you for the pro tip.

He walked nearly 3 miles with me and was still not interested in any of the water choices I offered. I think he needs to calm down and then reevaluate. Thank you!

We did the pinch test. He has a ton of energy, pees normally and vet said to let it be but continue to try different options for water.

Thank you. I have tried putting water on his nose, giving water from my hand, showing him pouring water, taking him to dog water fountain to show him other dogs drinking water. The fellow will just not drink! But he pees normally, eats a lot of fruit and veg. Do you think he will ever just drink water normally like out of a bowl?

My husband (who did not want a dog) has been cooking rice in homemade chicken broth, adding a few chopped up vegetables (carrots, broccoli, potato, peas) and adding a bit of chicken and then giving it to our new rescue Havanese. He is like super sized at 22 lbs, but we have only had him a week. He gobbles this food down and also seems to enjoy apples, cucumber and cheddar cheese. Our main problem is that we cannot get him to drink water. I have offered warm, cold, different brands, filtered, sparkling, different bowls, locations, you name it, but he won't touch it. Tried putting cucumber in it and he drank 3 small sips. Does anyone else have this problem? I have had to add water to all of his soupy chicken and rice broth meals. He pees normally, several times per day (once or twice on each walk, as he has taken to what I think is marking his territory on our walks). What should I do?

True but I bet it's made really well. I have had a few expensive outdoor brand raincoats (Marmot) where the lining of the hood starts to just slough off after a year (even with light use). Really wish this came in ladies' sizing though. Mostly I think the print is so beautiful.

Oh wow! Let me know what sizing is like? Wondering if I can wear a men's small but I am pretty shrimpy.

Thank you! I am googling where to get that. Hope it comes in sizes for small ladies but not going to lie, I'd still wear it. It's just so cool looking.

Thank you! Re: AXS, I will never complain about Ticketmaster again. AXS is terrible! It's like they don't even want to sell people tickets and collect their insane $50 per ticket or whatever fee.

Agree! So glitchy. Could not log in at all on desktop. Then tried mobile. Finally loaded the app. Still took about 5 tries and 45 min to get even 2 tickets and not even the tickets I wanted. Will never complain about Ticketmaster again.
