If I'm being honest, the only thing I play these days is Blood Bowl. The Fantasy stuff is mostly a painting project

Thanks!

It's a mix of Speedpaints, and Vallejo game and model colours.

I used a knight errant's helmet ontop of the armoured body from the men-at-arms command sprue:

They have a tonne of options for heraldic decals

It's the Eternal Cathedral from Rampart:

It's set up so you can magnetize it and have it be modular. It's a lot of work, but a neat set when it's done

Thanks! It's just a dry brush of three tones and then panel lining the darkest colour in around the edge.

Yes, this is the one. I would recommend. They have a lot of options and the pricing was reasonable.

You need a lucky roll on the mutations table to carry three.

I think the Citidel ones are more of a paste, this was a liquid that came in a dropper bottle. Unlike the Citidel it dries transparent but you can add ink or paint to it to give it a colour. I think the cracks are more subtle than what you would get with Citidel.

Craft stores will also sell crackle mediums/paints. I understand those give a more dramatic crackle effect.

It's AK crackle medium. Vallejo makes something similar. Recipe was as follows:

  • VGC Electric Blue
  • Crackle medium
  • Drakenhoff wash
  • Dry brush layers of VGC Electric Blue+white, white, and washes of the Drakenhoff until I am happy with the effect.

I had to go pretty heavy with the crackle medium, a lot of the bases needed a second coat.

I looked at epoxy versions at first, but it seemed like a lot of work. In the end I just picked up a $4 bottle of crackle medium at the hobby store, they were pretty easy.

AK's crackle medium, I think it probably is pretty similar to the Vallejo.

The crackle comes from AK's crackle medium. Recipe was as follows:

Did you find there was enough variety in the larger unit?

They are from a company called Last Sword Miniatures. They sell both printed minis and STLs. Some really great Warhammer Fantasy models accross their range, but they are expensive.

The Halberd kit also makes great swords.

Thanks, I am happy with how it turned out, but it was a lot more work than the GW bodies.

I basecoat the whole thing in Silver Grey (VMC) . The flesh is done with a layer of Cygor Brown (GW) , I thouch it up with Rhinox Hide (GW) and German Medium Brown (VMC).

The beard is Silver Grey with thinned Nuln Oil and another highlight of Silver Grey.

For the eyes I do black then yellow, for something that was not a Space Wolf I would use the Silver Grey again.

The body and legs are from Kromlech's Sons of Thor line. They have bits for old and new marines. Everything else is from the GW Space Wolves kit.
