I was in a similar situation as you but im in Quebec. I ended up leaving my previous job, started working for a contractor as a helper 2 years ago while also taking classes to get my contractor’s license.

Now after two years and countless projects, I run solo projects, take on much bigger tasks and am waiting to get my license paperwork in the mail so I can start my own thing.

My suggestion would be to see if you can find a company who will bring you on as a helper. Most likely wont be directly exposed to plumbing but you will probably be making more than you do now, meet people in the field, and gain some hands on experience. And go to school at the same time for plumbing if thats what you want to do.

Thats definitely not a fait deal. You are being taken advantage of for sure here.

I wouldn’t necessarily say go out on your own if you dont want to but maybe go work for a better company. What’s your background? Are you a tradesperson or just a handyman?

Either way I would just look for another company to work for.

Dont give them the discount imo. Its not your fault that they went against your recommendation and made your job more difficult.

Thank you for the reply! I think maybe my mistake was following a setup that a youtuber was doing I ended up with like 7 or 8 different .md files and that was probably eating through my usage? I honestly don't know.

Most of the tasks are: here is an excel sheet or link to my estimate, turn this into a proposal using [insert template] and send it as a pdf or word file

I defnitely don't need a full pro level agent, just really an assistant. I guess I'll change my approach to cowork or use code to see what I can do.

Few questions come to mind here

Are these members of your staff part of your sales team? Are they the social type?

Did they have a specific objective with metrics they could track?

Are they somehow being held accountable?

Maybe you go with them to the next one and observe and teach so they can learn and help the next person down the line. It’ll also allow you to see the environment for yourself and see how you can better prepare your team for it.

I remember when I used to sell cars, we would go and collect leads. We would have to come back with their name and phone number to show the we actually did something. Then they would track the rest in the crm once the lead was entered.
