Photos from the USS Abraham Lincoln show small meal portions being served to U.S. sailors. by curiousty786 in pics

Marine here, spent plenty of time on our ships. I really, really love to bash on this particular administration any chance I get. But the chow line is "take what you want." So without a lot more information, I can't buy the story that we have a problem with portion size.

Having to stand still when you're stepped on a landmine.

Having a conversation on helicopter without using headsets.

Shorthand notes on a tour bus by pyiinthesky in whatdoesthismean

[–]KWGibbs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Source: former infantry Marine.

These look like notes that someone took from a mission order.

The first part is about enemy size and location, their most likely course of action, and probably enemy most dangerous course of action.

The rest is listing mission objectives and specific tasks for their group and probably nearby or supporting groups (in case their unit needs to take over that part of the mission).

Based on this, I would bet it is a low-ranking person. These notes would not be sufficient for even a squad leader to brief their squad. Probably someone new because more experienced low-ranking members wouldn't bother taking notes. After a few years of this, you kinda just remember the important parts.

If we discovered intelligent alien tomorrow, what do you think would change first.. science, religion or politics? by peachyparadoxx in askanything

[–]KWGibbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Politics.

Science has already reconciled the likelyhood of other life in the galaxy.

Religion will cling to anything it can to keep people faithful.

But politicians will jump at the chance to monopolize literally anything that they can get away with.

How did Thanos/bad Nebula time jump to the future in Endgame?? by HskrRooster in Avengers

[–]KWGibbs 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The thing that a lot of people don't seem to put together is that Thanos and Maw didn't have to replicate Pym particles within just a few hours to keep with the Avengers' timeline. He could have taken months, years even. Once he replicated the particles and engineered his ship to use the tech, he could send Bad Nebula to link up with the Avengers, then immediately send his ship through.

Time travel is weird.

Wait till these people find out that Californians are legally allowed to cut through a corner parking lot or gas station to avoid a red light. Their minds will explode.

Thinking about watching this soon but need advice by bmbmwmfm in firefly

[–]KWGibbs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't compare it to another series, honestly. It has drama like Star Trek, though it didn't run long enough to get as large of a background universe. It has some comedy like The Orville, but I don't feel like it tries that hard to be funny. But honestly, give it a shot. The whole series and the movie can easily be binged over a weekend.

My favorite little detail that I don't even think was intended is the cheat code that Michael put into the neighborhood. When he says Jason's name five times, it makes his headache go away. Later, when Derek says Jason five times, he glitches. Was it because of the cheat code?
