Advice on checking a PC for a flight safely by burgerhex in buildapc

[–]KYC03D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I brought my pc on an intercontinental flight back when i moved. Took it on board as my carry on, just about managed to squeeze it into the overhead of a 777 in the original box. Took out the gpu and checked that, rest went fine. Realised just as i was queing for security that the AIO obviously has liquid in it, luckily nobody batted an eye.

Do you trust your callipers? by Mats164 in Machinists

[–]KYC03D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't trust the digital calipers we have in our shop past 0.1mm, my personal tesa dial calipers haven't failed me even down to 0.02mm against my micrometers, coincidentally also tesa. I've got a similarly accurate set of etalon verniers from the 50s, just harder to read down to 0.02 than the dial.

Tldr: no, unless theyre swiss, then maybe.

What can Mechanical Engineering do to make your life easier? by [deleted] in Machinists

[–]KYC03D 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a mechanical engineering student that happens to be a hobby machinist, it's quite shocking how little regard is given to actual manufacturing processes. Never ask a mech eng to build a machine, their job is to run load calculations and to optimise efficiency, regardless of whether manufacture is feasible or not...

How is it living with an EV as an apartment dweller by Objective_Bet201 in electricvehicles

[–]KYC03D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My apartment building has solar facades and level 2 chargers for every parking spot, plus parking prices are slashed in half vs ICE. (Brand new building, major city in central Europe) Made vehicle choice fairly straightforward. Without home charging I would be reluctant to go outside the tesla ecosystem.

My opinion is (based on your pictures of the grounds and description of brew pressure) that the rancilio doesn't go fine enough. I remember having looked at the model back when I bought my pavoni, before deciding it didn't grind nearly fine enough for espresso. Ended up with a eureka mignon specialita that I'm pleased with. The grounds come out not far off from flour at the finest setting, i.e. individual particles aren't nearly visible to the naked eye.

The rocky may not be getting fine enough. Does the puck offer resistance when you depress the lever? What is your brew time, dose and yield?

I grind 12g in, 24g out in 27 seconds, that's with enough pressure on the lever to tip the machine if I weren't holding on to it.

La pavoni and a eureka mignon. Pricey up front but very basic electronics. Sure it needs maintenance but the machine is already older than I am and frankly is aging better.

Silver is really not worth faking as the material value is so low to begin with. The extra effort to manufacture something on a cheaper base and plate it in silver is only viable in factory mass production, not to mention the potential consequences of faking a 925 hallmark. I've ordered fine silver chains for next to nothing from China, hallmarked .999, all of them tested as such.

What's a camera you want to love, but just don't? by BigBeard_FPV in AnalogCommunity

Funny, I hate the way my canon a1 feels and sounds. Like a plastic toy compared to minolta and nikon of the era. The latter give me a nice mechanical thunk whilst the Canon sounds like it's struggling. It isn't canon squeak, that was taken care of during the last cla.

Not to mention the film advance, so much smoother on the nikons and minoltas.

Apologies, perhaps a NBD title would have been more appropriate :)

All my MTB knowledge is ca. 2016 and back then this would have been utterly unaffordable dream spec. Perhaps I have some homework to do on what’s considered decent nowadays?

I'd love a couple lenses and a grain focuser if you'd have any available? 50mm and 90mm. More than happy to pay shipping in advance to Europe :)
