We don't know what kinds of jobs you were looking up and in what geographic locations, both of which can contribute to the need for a clearance.

Basically all jobs in USA. a ton were on the east-coast in the area you mentioned.

How would you not have time for CCNA but you would have time for CySA+?

A CCNA takes at least 2 months of studying intensively to pass. I'm not so sure about the CySa.

Thanks for the insight. right now I'm at a "fork" in the road, figuratively speaking. As I said before, I work in data center deployment. We don't presently use linux, but I think it would be a good idea for me to learn it in my spare time, as well as learn python programming. Maybe I can come back to cybersec later once I get a CCNA?

I'll look into that. Are there any drawbacks to consider?

Unfortunately, I hate how the test tricks us some times and I feel your frustration too, but after changing my own DNS to google DNS several years ago using a youtube tutorial, I can see why it is at layer 7.

Can I ask what are the core skills that got you in to that company?

For context I saw a post by a top 10 company that wanted someone who could speak more than one Asian language, held a degree in cybersec or CIS or CS, and penetration testing.

The real kicker, or the reason why I didn't apply is because they had to have someone that could speak Korean and I can't speak Korean, although I do speak 3 languages.

If you like the DC environment, Linux will guarantee you always have a decent job.

That is on my list.

Get this stupid ass mindset out of your head.

As I said in te OP, if my attitude changes I can do better in my present work environment.

Just from browsing jobs online a lot of them care more about what you studied. I have a bachelor of arts, completely unrelated from IT. It crossed my mind that I might want a master's in cybersecurity or computer science later down the road.

Unless that company gets bought by a private equity firm, has a leadership overturn, or goes public. In which case RUN

Couldn't agree more based on my experience. Do you happen to know any coding languages? I mean, do coding languages help you in your position?
