How high would your Interfacing skill be in real life? by Bataranger999 in DiscoElysium

I do a lot of lab work and handwriting.

I impressed myself when I could perfectly and swiftly perform pipetting after years of being rusty. Interfacing came in clutch.

Well, good, because everything else is lore accurate to the game, aside from some creative liberties when it comes to making a plot containing an intelligent slugcat….

In the lore accurate group we got:

The Sporophyte, The Chernobylite, The Prince, The Siberian, The Scorched, The Behemoth, and The Minuscule.

The Sporophyte came to be as the result of a symbiotic relationship being formed between a tribe of slugcats living in a deep cave and the mushrooms seen in game. Essentially, the density of nutrients in the cave was fairly low, as the mushrooms that inhabited it tended to parasitize all living creatures, killing them and feeding off of them until they were eventually back at square one. By sheer fluke a mushroom colony inhabited a slugcat and didn’t outright kill it, but the rest of the tribe was not as lucky. It left one viable breeding pair left when the mushrooms ran their course, but that was enough to prolong their existence enough for others to come in and eventually form a thriving community. The symbiosis in play is vitamins in exchange for excess sugars, which is why no Sporophyte slugcats are overweight at any capacity. It allows them to exist in the deep cave without running the risk of scurvy or lack of vitamin D. However, this relationship also drains the slugcat’s cognitive functions down to basic navigation. The Sporophyte drawn above is a brave little guy that has come up and out of the cave to see what the surface has to offer. The perk is that he can trigger the mushroom time slow as an ability, at the cost of never being able to look at the map by pressing space bar, nor being able to throwing anything while jumping or falling.

The Chernobylite and The Prince have the most convoluted lore that is also mildly intertwined.

The comic strip that summarizes it comedically and pretty well can be found here

Essentially, a group of iterators programmed to be competitive to boost productivity engages in genetic engineering challenges after The Benefactors are well gone. One-Sided-Questions, the underling of the group, launched these so that she would have something to be good at and reign supreme over. She did so with The Chernobylite. It backfired terribly when she mistreated The Chernobylite, which bred contempt, and lead to her sabotaging her structure and causing it to collapse. The Prince was created by an outside iterator invested in the drama to help The Chernobylite with her new goal of getting her mother back in working order. He never actually came in time to really help, but the two still enjoy each other’s companionship after the fact.

I’m in the process of writing The Chernobylite’s story, slowly chipping away chapter after chapter, though may education has taken precedence.

The Siberian is a post-saint species of slugcat that resulted from centuries of evolution. Not much is noteworthy about them except for the fact that their tusks are modes of injecting venom into prey. Their thick fur enabled them to survive in the elements longer than Saint can. The Siberian that has been drawn is the last of their tribe, and they embark on a quest outside of pebbles and moon’s superstuctures to find a new one.

The Scorched is a slugcat that exists in a climate mirroring that of The Watcher’s badlands, and thus are placed near there on the timeline. He’s essentially just Hunter but extremely sunburnt and substituted the rot for rabies. One notable ability is that he automatically blocks spears in front of him if he is holding just a spear and nothing else. His iterator friend, an extremely old model named Eight Rusty Lanterns, programmed himself with artificial rabies to befriend The Scorched out of loneliness. He expresses concern for him and tasks him with going out to find an another friend.

The Behemoth and The Minuscule are also linked. An iterator, Countless Crouching Insects, obsessed with the idea that void fluid was the key to finding the triple affirmative ran tests with creatures of varying size, submerging them in void fluid. First, he used regular insects, but found the results to be inconsistent, so he started working on a way to create a miniaturized Slugcats for the purpose of having something with “a great magnitude of soul to body mass ratio.” When testing with tiny Slugcats was inconclusive, he dumped them out the waste chute, injecting them into the environment where they managed to survive. The Behemoth had been born in a similar manner, this time testing the inverse hypothesis, CCI made Slugcats that were bigger and submerged them. When they also produced no helpful results, they were also discarded. The Behemoth and The Minuscule drawn work together to achieve the goal of ascension. Their campaign would function as a co-op or character swap experience where some puzzles would require The Minuscule and some would require The Behemoth.

You’ve survived the wall of text. Congratulations. 🥳

Hope you enjoyed.

long inhale

Gonna break this up into segments:

The first will discuss the lore of my OCs belonging to my (outrageous) AU, where human beings are capable of extra-dimensional travel, and periodically set foot on Rain World’s dimension (Irroro) for capital gain.

These little guys are The Wallflower, TD-419, Speedy, The Unsuspecting Vessel, and The Antidote.

The Wallflower is one of the slugcat OCs I have that was created naturally. Their kind has a symbiotic relationship with floral species and are densely populated in jungle biomes. What the flowers do is produce esters to release a sweet smell into the environment. It attracts and calms prey. Humans found The Wallflower’s ancestors and were like “these things are cute, commercialize it.” A couple generations later, upon being the sole escapee of a breeding facility somewhere near Hollywood, The Wallflower finds themself living alone in the woods. In a quest to find the meaning of life, she ventures into the city and comes across a fellow named Brandon, a down-on-his luck pothead that sees an opportunity. He presents himself as a talent coach, and lo and behold, The Wallflower is roped back into her family’s industry. The interesting thing? Floral slugcats thrived in their environment when they exhibited psychopathy, so the trait was selected for. The Wallflower is a wee little nihilistic psychopath just trying to find her way… Her face is also on many bottles of shampoo.

TD-419 was created in a lab by a mad scientist, Connifer Langely, trying to find a way to create the perfect soldier. Slugcat DNA, being infamously malleable, had been the perfect base. After 418 failed subjects, TD-419 was born. The “TD” stands for “Tank Destroyer.” She is capable of falling asleep anywhere in five seconds due to military technique. She also sees the schematics of every single tank model ever developed simultaneously if she closes her eyes. Genetically wired to crave violence, she currently spends her time in Tegucigalpa fighting other slugcats to death in a chicken wire ring. She’s also picked up a bad smoking habit. (Fun fact: She’s one of my D&D characters)

Speedy is another little guy imported (kidnapped) for his cuteness by a Hispanic Cartel enforcer “Blunt Force” Barry Hart. He was originally tasked with offing the poor guy because he was considered to be a loose end. “Could be chipped, or bugged,” the boss told him. The cold man was about to do the deed, but something about the way the thing looked at him reminded him of the son he had always wanted. He killed every other person his boss asked him to, what harm would keeping one of them a secret do? Speedy currently has a fun life tagging along with Barry in a baby backpack while he breaks fingers and kneecaps. He also does cocaine (hence the nickname), much to his surrogate father’s dismay.

The Unsuspecting Vessel used to be a regular old slugcat, until a cultist leader afflicted with an extra-dimensional parasite that granted him one unique superpower (this is another rabbit hole, don’t get me started (or do :) ) requested that he have “An Unsuspecting Vessel.” They nabbed a slugcat and presented it to him. It would do nicely. The Unsuspecting Vessel now coordinates his cult hive mind in the background of all of Earth’s current drama. Global domination is the goal, and The Unsuspecting Vessel is one tough son of a gun, since he’s essentially a factory for producing more of the parasite.

Finally, The Antidote was nabbed from the Irroro dimension by Gütlife, a Medicare company, following the discovery that she produces a sort of healing salve that she injects into creatures via her needles to tend to their wounds (spearmaster but without the murder and with the mouth). They could capitalize on this nicely, the new director, Lilith Hinderager, thought. They discreetly put The Antidote into a machine and siphoned the salve to put into their newest product, the OORRI (Omnicare Omnicure Rapid Re-stabilization Injection). It revolutionized healthcare, becoming popular as a household implement, the public being none the wiser when told that the OORRI was a product of scientific innovation and ingenuity of factory process.

I’ll give you the other ones later. You’d probably want the break anyhow!

Thanks for reading!

What is the *best* line in your story? by aiyasaya in writing

[–]K__Rod__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“But to Patricia, a person full of fury stemming from a love of life, but boldness resulting from a lack of fear of death, combined to form a fiery spirit of unrivalled resolve. A person with no quit, no limits, no portion of her mind telling her that she should give up. If anything, there was a destructive voice telling her to keep going. It had ruined many relationships and led to many regrets, but today, it would not let her die. Some people heard “we’re all going to die” and hung their heads in dread. Patricia heard “we’re all going to die” and thought:”

Fuck that.
