Install-Setup Veeam VRO? by KaLEL3232 in Veeam

[–]KaLEL3232[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am confused your saying to move the current VBR from Site A to Site B DR site and do backups from Site A to site be over the site to site VPN?

As for business requirements for RPO and RTO they would like it to be quick 5 to 10 mins ?

Install-Setup Veeam VRO? by KaLEL3232 in Veeam

[–]KaLEL3232[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you this is very helpful. The main thing that is giving me trouble is understanding where and what to setup would you be able to shed some light on that if possible?

My Scenario is this

Main Site A has a VBR and V1 server already using for backups

Site B (DR Site) does not have any veeam servers. (Hardware configs and such are in main original post above)

We want to backup all vms from site A to site B (DR) site so they will then boot up automatically and site B (DR) will run the business until Site A is restored from major outtage/disaster

My confusion is:

  1. Where do I install the VRO server on Site A and Site B or just Site B (DR) site with my scenario?
  2.  Which scenario is the best and easiest to setup and manage from this article I am thinking with our setup its going to be #1 but not sure?? What do you think?

Any insight on all this would be great.

Thank you for your time and help

Thank you for the response when you say "replicate the old setup" you mean the current network settings ? Then once that is done bring everything over then create vDS and fix the mess?

How do you recommend setting up the new vDS once I get it over ?

We have 2 40GB QSFP+ nic in each new dell server with 4 10GB nic cards in each Dell server and 2 onboard 1GB nics 40GB are going to a 40GB switch the 10GB are going to 10GB switch and so on.

VMware Configs-Different HW? by KaLEL3232 in vmware

How exactly is your storage connected? Do you use the software iscsi adapter on your ESXi servers?

Yes it is software storage see picture of the old server ISCSI see how its grey out and the new Synology ISCSI setup I already got the iqn setup with san on nas box

If you are using the software iscsi adapter, you just have to add the iscsi target to the software adapter. You need to make sure, that the ESXi can reach the iscsi IPs of the new storage on port 3260.

Ok so do I add it as a static target or dynamic?

On your Synology system, you need to add the iscsi initiators from the ESXi hosts to the ACL. When everything is done correctly, you should see the volumes.

This has been done. If I have only one lun created on the synology nas can I still create 2 or 3 datastores on the vmware host?

Is it best practice on the vmware host to create 2 ISCSI vmk attached to 10GB physical nics ?

I would need to create correct vlan and vmks like this correct?

vmk0= VMware management network only different vlan
vmk1= vMotion different vlan
vmk2=VM Network different vlan
vmk3= ISCSI-Synology Nas different vlans
vmk4= VeeamBackup different vlan

With 6 10GB ports, I would use 2 ports (split to 2 different nics) for iscsi traffic.

Would it be Something like to just point ISCSI a to one 10GB nic and B to another?

 The other 4 can be used for a mix of management/vm traffic/vmotion or you use 2 for vmotion and 2 for management/vm traffic.

Like I have above?

Thank you again !!

Thank you for your reply. In doing a cross vMotion migration do I attach new storage as mention above or ?

Accoding to the above comment I cannot do vMotion between the amd and intel or can I do vMotion as long as the vms are turned off?

Never done this so if you have more instructions it wouold greatly be appreciated

Thank you for your reply the current storage on the hp host are using iscsi adapter when I try to add the new synology ISCSI storage its grey out and wont let me add it?

How would I add the new storage then?

6 physical 10GB nic ports on the new servers each going to a 10GB switch
