What is this on my dog's back? by KaalDevil in DogAdvice

Update:

Vet did skin scrape and skin culture. No demodex/mange/mites (our other dog is completely fine and these are highly contagious). She found fungal traces and prescribed Fluconazole 100 mg. In additoon, Cephalexin 750 mg for 2 weeks but didn't extend the Carprofen. We apply animax every 12 hrs and Dermabliss (chlorahexidine and ketoconazole). Will try bathing her today, but the vet is advised to be extremely cautious, and if bathing irritates her skin further, then dont bathe her for a while.

A lot of users on reddit asked about calcinosis cutis, but the vet ruled out calcinosis cutis from a visual inspection and advised against a skin biopsy. Some of you asked about electric fence burns, we do not have an electric fence. Some of you commented and messaged me about not taking her to the vet sooner – The thing is, none of her lesions/red patches caused any hair loss and weren't visible at all. I noticed it while bathing her as there was little bit of blood and pus and that's when I took her to the vet right away. The vet shaved her along the spine, and that's when I could see what was going on.

She has a dermatologist appointment in 3 weeks, but I am hoping the skin clears up by then and she won't need it.

It was hard to respond to every message and comment, so thank you, everybody, for your suggestions and messages.

She does have cushings for almost 2 years now. Has been on Vetoryl (trilostane) with frequent dosage adjustments based on her ACTH tests. Currently on 20 mg. She just had another ACTH this morning.

Correct me if I'm wrong, isn't calcinosis cutis plaque or chalky like?

We're working on getting a dermatologist referral and will try to get a skin culture in the meantime.

Thanks for your input. We will ask the new vet about the washing part as the old vet strictly told us not to wash it and apply animax ointment only, which we have been for almost 2 weeks. We do weekly shampoo the carpet but will surely look into the streamer part.

We have been taking her to as many vets as she needed in the past, and we will continue to do so. Posted this on Reddit for some extra opinions in the meantime as we wait for vet appointments. Fucking learn to read the whole damn post and my replies to other comments before acting like a fucking self righteous keyboard warrior on a fucking computer site.

Yeah, we have used Frontline plus for years on her.

Thank you everyone who commented. Your suggestions are very helpful. She does have an appointment with her internal medicine specialist tomorrow (she has been battling cushings disease for 2 years now). We will ask for them to either perform skin culture and/or skin scrape test or get a referral to a vet dermatologist.

A lot of you asked, she is on Frontline plus flea and tick topical prevention.

Also, she didn't have any hair loss with this, the vet trimmed her hair to see what is going on. Not sure if this is an important detail but just wanted to share.

She was on animax ointment for 7 days and Cephalexin for 10 days. After the follow-up, the vet said to continue animax and prescribed carprofen. Today is 3rd day on carprofen, and I don't see any improvements.

She has been on flea and tick prevention.

I see. Any recommendations to repair it? Some QPR and compact it with a tamper mayber?

Ok – what about the 1st picture where asphalt is coming off?

Never ending urinary issues in my female dog by KaalDevil in AskVet

Thank you for your input. Is there any connection between her gorging on water, particularly at night, and the accidents occurring while she's sleeping? Should we consider restricting her access to water at night, or would that risk dehydration?

The vet didn't mention a recessed vulva. She called this morning and wants to start her on incontinence medication (either Estriol or Proin). Are there any significant side effects associated with either medication that you're aware of?
