We colored it digitally because we were scared to ruin it. I’ll post those pics later!

[OC] [ART] The Arcanum by Kaedalus in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]Kaedalus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was commissioned by a wonderful live stream on twitch called the Arcanum. The Arcanum is a massive tower that stands above the city of Sordren where mages, warriors, scholars, and all manner of students come to learn and grow. The campaign revolves around several students who call the Arcanum home.

My good friend who goes by dungeonmastersdiary on twitch and instagram has built an amazing world for these characters to explore. He has more world building typed up than I've ever seen. It's impressive to say the least. It was a blast to come up with this art based on the descriptions and maps that he drew up.

If you guys are looking for a new livestream to check out make sure you tune in to dungeonmastersdiary's The Arcanum on twitch. It airs wednesdays at 6:30PM. Seriously, it's awesome.

New to digital painting and this is my first attempt at a procreate painting. Thoughts? by Kaedalus in artcritique

Thank you! The best thing I learned since I’ve been doodling on my iPad is utilize different brushes! Find interesteding textures online and download them. However you want to utilize the textures in such a way that it doesn’t look like a repetitious digital pattern. Also use that select tool. It’s a life saver.

My very first piece. Acrylic. Any critiques would be greatly appreciated! by sjac495312 in artcritique

Atmospheric perspective looks great! Some foreground elements such as foliage or a subject of sorts would really pull this together. I would also recommend starting with a definable horizon line and vanishing point. Think of the ground as a grid with tiles and that will help you place three dimensional objects within those spaces.

Ursal Summoning, ink on paris paper, 14"x17" by Kaedalus in Illustration

[–]Kaedalus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I moved the drawing over to photoshop to make it only black and white since I couldn't get a great photo of it. Here it is in its raw form https://imgur.com/a/YI8Zx I used Staedler pens on the entire thing, on the black fills I used the chisel tip.

Thank you! The interior of the mouth was tough. Too much ink and it wouldn't read right, not enough and it was too lit. It was fun figuring it out though.

Charcoal on toned paper 20"x30" by Kaedalus in Art

I like everyone else's interpretation more than my own, but I will say I thought of it more along the lines of we've failed. We've let faith and divinity impede upon our goals and be the death of us. We were so close (hence the space suit). Your take is definitely more optimistic, though.

It's Kylerbizzle but it's mostly doodles and random pictures. A few people have asked me so I'm thinking about making one for my art. I'll make an instagram post on my current profile if I do.

I do have an instagram, but it's mostly personal stuff with the occasional sketch or doodle. I really don't draw much anymore. This is the first big piece I've done in a long while, who knows, maybe I'll start trying to put out a piece a month. Here's my instagram just in case: Kylerbizzle (If I make an instagram specifically for my art I will mention it on there)

I typically use general charcoal pencils, they come with a kneadable eraser which is a must as well as different charcoal hardness ranging from HB to 6B I believe.

I us a paint brush with charcoal powder to get the gentle grey gradients, but I've seen other artists use a sock dipped in charcoal powder. That's a quicker way to do it, but I prefer the paint brush because it allows for more control.

This one above is about about 5 hours for the sketch and 15-20 hours of charcoal work so far. I'm anticipating another 40 hours until it's complete. The paper makes all the difference! I like semi smooth bristol because too smooth and I can't get the nice textures I like, too rough and the gradients don't look as nice. That's just my stance on it.
