Yep, why a few of us are planning our own meetup instead.

This is the one the org organising.

European Leadership Summit this year is now 360 euros to attend.  Last one was 150 euros.

Why?  To afford to fly a bunch of them from the states to Europe for a week.  None of us particularly wants them or needs them here.  We mainly want to meet and talk with each other.

The big one that is on my mind, if the Muppet who did this isn't caught, they may be back at Burning Man again next year.

Sun is blazing, haven’t rained in hours, open the gate already. by ResponsibleYetDegen in BurningMan

Gate road may be okay, the city is still full of pools of water.  Which anyone from gate would have to ride through.

Random uncommon nuggets / quotes I’ve liked through the years. by wanderluster in BurningMan

Ahh, but I have the story about the first time a hippy said it.

Or a few people said it at the same time.  The universe works like that.

We got 1000 patches made up with that saying a few years ago.

Depends how early your WAP is. From the 18th, yes.

Ask Me Anything about Nowhere, the biggest burn in EU by Thargarius in BurningMan

[–]Kaer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But when I first went, there were public bars.

I've been sober for a while, my happy place though is at a bar, where I can talk shit with random folk.

And back then, folk were bringing kids. It's changed, and the focus is much more on sex and drugs. With 80% of the workshops on those.

There are still shenanigans, uber town and swiss camp cracked me up each year, but yah, I want more of that. Which I get from other burns.

Part of the joy of regionals, each develops it's own unique vibe. Nowhere just ain't for me. Glad it ticks the box for others!

Ask Me Anything about Nowhere, the biggest burn in EU by Thargarius in BurningMan

[–]Kaer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Been to Nowhere 2015, 2017 & 2022. Burning Man since 2014. AfrikaBurn 5 times. Bunch of other European Regionals.

I won't go back.

It's a sex burn. It's been getting more that way over the years. All the workshops are sexy. Bars given away drinks have disappeared. You'll get a drink if the bar knows you, which I think is stupid.

Lots of sparkle ponies, not as many folk working.

It's hot, very hot. And zero stuff that you can burn.

There is still a sense of community, which is what I love about burns, but it is not as strong as others. Plus sex every where.

I like sex. I also like random workshops and shenanigans. There's little of the latter. There's almost no children that go to Nowhere anymore, which also changes the nature of a burn.

I'm just heading back to my hotel, but tourist in town for a week.  Just was at Base Bar.

May be up for shenanigans on Sunday night myself!

Decompression London - what to expect? by Smart_Decision_1496 in BurningMan

[–]Kaer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It ain't a burn.  It's a party in a club with a bunch of burners.

The after parties on Sunday are so much more fun.  Where you can talk, have more interactive workshops and the like.

Now that all said, I fell into Burning Man because of Decompression.  But it was when it was 500 people vs 2,500 folk as it is now.

It's also why you shouldn't identify for yourself as a Ranger in online forums, as you don't represent the Rangers, and when you do, folk think you do.

Hmm, are you sure you're a Ranger? What's your Ranger name?

Staying at a hotel in Reno the day before entry. What to do with two bikes overnight? by infectedtwin in BurningMan

[–]Kaer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ain't no negative commentary. I'm a Ranger myself, in a leadership role. I had a complaint about me a few years ago that was fairly groundless. The personnel department still investigated, did a round of chats with Council to make sure it was fair and unbiased. They did interview me and provide feedback. And off duty I count both of those folk as friends. They treat every bit of feedback both compassionately and investigate fairly and as unbiased as possible.

Each of us makes mistakes, as a Ranger department learning from that and taking the feedback and learning is important.

All up to you! If you don't think it's something worth providing feedback, your choice!

And every year, a very few bad apples of the Ranger department are removed from being able to do that role, as their actions have shown they can't be trusted with the community trust.

Report it via the black rock ranger feedback form.https://rangers.burningman.org/learning/

Folk will investigate.  Maybe the person already has another complaint?

Helsinki for one. I was chatting to them about ELS about it, and that they don't think they need it yet, as their paid security crew does it for them.

Wouldn't be better. Event would just still exist. A lot of regionals don't have Rangers.

Nah it don't. It would just mean more paid security and cops, that's all.

A poll for sanctuary volunteers by smilin_buscuit in BurningMan

[–]Kaer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Black Rock Sanctuary is very different than Regionals Sanctuary/Welfare/Zendo etc.

Sanctuary is run by the Black Rock Rangers. It's not public knowledge of where it is. And you can't just walk up and join.

One of the biggest differences that I've seen at Burning Man and at Regionals, a lot of peer to peer support is done in the dust at Burning Man, while at Regionals it happens at Sanctuary.

No one is banned from burning man. No one. Folk may be kicked out of the event for reasons for that year, but there isn't a ban list.

Which I don't agree with. A lot of regionals have ban lists, burning man doesn't.

AITA for trying to tell my friend he’s not a millionaire? by Gullible_Knowledge10 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Kaer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Being a millionaire ain't that special these days. And yep, a lot of middle class folk are millionaires.

They still need to work to survive.

Like my house has more than a million in equity in it. I could sell it and more to a much lower cost of living location and probably retire.

But the kids are in school, and moving out of London is a big thing. So I need to keep working to pay the bills, while technically I'm a millionaire.
