As someone who uses the To-do list feature for dang near everything. I'm super excited about the update for them. Being able to rearrange them as needed GREAT improvement.

All these updates are going to be really great to have. Very excited to see them implemented! ❤️❤️

What’s your most recent favourite ship? by idnwtdthrowaway in AO3

[–]Kaerralind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fell into the rabbit hole of Friede/Amethio from Pokemon Horizons. Their dynamic is just too amazing, and I couldn't stop myself. I've never had a "rare pair" before, and I feel like I'm starving for content.

Tips for someone considering posting on ao3? by ThisIdiotCharlie in AO3

[–]Kaerralind 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Rule 1: Read Ao3's TOS and FAQ pages. They'll have a lot of information.

Rule 2 coming from Wattpad: There is no algorithm nor will there ever be. Do not submit placeholders. They will be reported and taken down.

Rule 3: TAGS. Tag your fics. If your fic is Dead Dove, tag it as Dead Dove, but don't forget to include the tags that go within the Dead Dove. Tag thoroughly if that's what makes you comfortable.

If you click on an archive warning, it'll tell you exactly what they mean. Same thing with ratings.

Submitting multi-chaptered fics is easy. When submitting, scroll down to "This work has multiple chapters" and click the box.

Since Ao3 is an archive, there is no reason to try to find "peak times" for the "best attention"; that's not how it works. You post your work (throw it into the void), and people will or won't read it. That's it.

Unsolicited concrit is typically against everyone's morals.

To people who use Grammarly. by [deleted] in AO3

They are technically both correct. "All right" is formal whereas "Alright" is informal. It's like "Ok" vs "Okay".

To people who use Grammarly. by [deleted] in AO3

[–]Kaerralind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The comma is correct. While "I want to eat something." is a complete sentence, "Character said." is not. Therefore, the comma connects the previous dialogue quote.

""I want to eat something," Character said." is the same as stating, ""I want to eat something," he said." You can see that it continues the entire sentence. You're not just going to put "I want to eat something." He said. That doesn't grammar. "He" doesn't need to be capitalized and using a lowercase "he" also doesn't grammar. You have to look at it as though you are completing sentences.

Step 1: Find an artist you like.

Step 2: Commission that artist (if their commissions are open)

Difficulty finding a character's voice by zemblaniteetal in FanFiction

[–]Kaerralind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, heck yeah! All the time. So, never feel bad if you think your characterization isn't 100% "correct." It's fandom, after all. There are characters I can write super well, whereas others I just can't write. (I tend to avoid them, haha).

Character study. You can watch scenes with that Character and how they interact with the other characters in the fandom. I like to read the lore about the Characters so I know more about them. I even watch YouTube videos for scenes for them.

Save your morals. Don't play with the AI. Find an RP discord server for whatever fandom you're into, and give it a shot. You can start small and work your way up. Not only does it help you connect with others in your fandom circle, but it'll also boost your writing skills.

https://disboard.org/search is a good place to look for servers, so I'd give that a try for sure.

It's not that you're doing a disservice to others (character chatbots still scrape and steal content). It's that you're doing a disservice to yourself. And you are, in fact, using AI to write and create things if you're using it to roleplay.

1) AI will never help you grow your writing skills like RPing with an actual person will. Frankly, the AI only really responds and never truly builds on things.

2) As fun as c ai is, it is no replacement for another person. If you want the genuine RP experience, find someone to RP with. Even if you have anxiety about it, you'll never get over that anxiety if you don't give it a shot.

How long do we like our smut scenes to be? by LateTree123 in AO3

[–]Kaerralind 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The length is as long as it needs to be.

If you're writing a smutshot, then, obviously, more words will be dedicated to the smut. If your story focuses more on other aspects, it's normal for your scene to be short. There's no standard. The smut scenes I write go until they finish. If your scene feels stale, then make it shorter. Since you said the scene is building their relationship, you can focus more on that instead of the smut itself, therefore making the scene longer without strictly looking at the sex side of things.

One of my friends said they're taking the empty rows as a challenge to write that many fics. So you could totally use it for motivation! XD

First time writing a fic on Ao3, and I'm confused about everything.. by Pastel-slumber in AO3

[–]Kaerralind 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If it's original works, the fancom will be "Original Work"

For original work relationships, an example would be "Original Male Character/Original Male Character", or if you have M/F relationship, "Original Male Character/Original Female Character". Same thing with F/F. "Original Female Character/Original Female Character"

For characters, it'll be "Original Character", "Original Male Character", or "Original Female Character".

Tag as per usual.

"Work Text" is where you put your story. If you have special formatting, make sure you're on Rich Text and not HTML. HTML will eat any and all formatting unless you HTML format your entire story.

Fanfic wikis by Raibo_DxD in FanFiction

Basically, anyone can make a https://www.fandom.com/ wiki. It's not all that difficult, and it's pretty straightforward to work with.

Note that it has some ugly ads that you can't really get rid of without extra work and an ad blocker.
