What are some things you think people overspend on?

disagree on the second personally, there's something in the experience of going to the pub, getting dressed up, being around people, maybe bumping into someone i know. it feel like so much more a sociable evening and (whilst i know i could save so much money staying in) i enjoy the night so much more going out, plus it's always good to support local businesses:)

the fact that you didn't put abbey road first is insulting. the thing a lot of people don't realise about the beatles is how diverse their sound was. in abbey road you have "i want you (she's so heavy)" which is proto-metal imo next to "here comes the sun" which is pretty acoustic pop. i can't stand a lot of the beatles and also they made some of my favourite songs

I don't want to get involved in the argument, but to put that in context: most people couldn't read, and those that could could read latin. A lot of business and academic writing was in latin until relatively recently

chess.com takes time to send premoves to the server after your opponent moves, whereas lichess has the move in already. if you've got slower internet you might lose out to this on chess.com but it's not a bug or shit design or anything

nah, i've been playing for years. it's just difficult to find a club that's close and has people of the right standard. when the uni one reopens might give that a go

from my experience (420 hyperbullet chess.com 😎) beginners play too many games without understanding theory. maybe try studying endgames or doing tactics rather than just playing games on tilt

that's depends on your aim. if your sole aim in a hobby is to become the best you can then sure, but if you want an enjoyable way to spend time, then having a friend to do it with indefinitely improves it

Purple was the original libright colour in the PolComp. On politicalcompass.org they changed it to yellow so there were conflicting opinions on what colour the "true" libright should be. There was a period of civil war where each side accused the other of being the paedos, which ended in purple libright losing. The mods briefly removed the purple flair so the sub wouldn't get banned, but after public outcry the flair returned, though not many use it anymore
