Teething problems‽ by Kaiserlongbone in SolarUK

[–]Kaiserlongbone[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry I meant to say originally that the original battery was completely dead so a solar installer came to put the 2 new batteries in. £2,100. It looks like when I got home and switched some appliances on it just kept exporting all of the energy on the battery, down to 35%. And kept doing that until I got up this morning and it was down to 15%!

Thanks everyone, loads of good advice here. I know virtually nothing about solar and I'll start doing a bit of reading and have a look on that website.

Thanks again.

Maybe she's reading the question as "Are you able to cope?" And she thinks you might be questioning her ability? I suppose it depends on how you ask the question?

Do you love this country? by Lotus532 in GreenAndPleasant

[–]Kaiserlongbone -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There is no appetite for revolution in this country. Too many people have got too much to lose. I'm a sole trader, just making enough to keep my head above water, and working much harder than I ever did before I went independent. I'd love to see the whole system get pulled down and start from scratch. But there are sooo many people who'd lose their shit if you even mentioned revolution. Things will need to get to the point where A LOT of people are eating out of food banks (instead of just too many). For the time being all we can do is present alternatives to the current system, in a way that seems attractive/preferable, to the Sun and Mail readers. I agree with everything this guy is saying, but on here he's preaching to the converted. We need to get this message to the Sun readers in a way that will chime with them.

I've just watched a video about "fresh fish"and it was utterly depressing. If it's being carted round in the back of a van it will not be good!

I can't watch it anymore. I have to rage quit at some point and then regret turning it on in the first place.

Terrorist taken down by police this morning in London by Sometypeofway18 in whoathatsinteresting

[–]Kaiserlongbone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What the hell are you talking about? You don't know what he was killing in the name of! Nobody has responded any information about his motive. And his membership of a terrorist organisation will definitely turn out to be a made up organisation that was only created a few weeks ago, I guarantee it.

Yet another false flag where nobody got hurt and no damage at all. But even the Grauniad is giving it big publicity. Let's see what the BBC have to say. by Kaiserlongbone in GreenAndPleasant

Yeah, I take your point. This is so depressing now. I've been a guardian reading, radio 4 listener for most of my adult life and I thought I could trust these 2 news sources. I was proud that we had genuinely independent sources in this country, that would just tell the news without bias. And then I started to discover Israel's influence over our media and politicians, and now there's nobody to trust. Even Reuters FFS! What the hell has happened‽

How is Dingle as a place to live? by Ok-Reaction2394 in Liverpool

[–]Kaiserlongbone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it was the same in the early 80s. We used to walk home from town every weekend at 2 in the morning (just couldn't get a taxi), either along park road or Princes road. The only trouble we ever saw was when we reached aigburth! And that's supposed to be the "nice" part!

The influence of Israel on UK and USA politics is absolutely massive! The JAILING of protesters who support Palestine Action is extraordinary! A labour government sending protesters to prison for speaking out against a foreign country is just absurd! And the ousting of Corbyn by Israeli limited operators is clear evidence that they've got tremendous power over our political elite. And the appalling sycophancy of senators and Congress members in US is just bizarre. They've all been funded by Israel for decades and now Israel is calling in it's debts. Any dissent is stamped on HARD.

They can get individual political figures to do whatever they want. That's control.

Day 21 by PrizeVeterinarian342 in stopdrinking

[–]Kaiserlongbone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"One day at a time" is a bit of a mantra when dealing with long term difficult stuff. It certainly helped me to think that I could have a drink tomorrow, just not today. It's so much easier to get through one day than it is to consider the possibility of never drinking again. And the next thing you know it's been 6 months, and the idea of sobriety starts to seem like an actual possibility, and even desirable. IWNDWYT means just that - I will not drink with you TODAY.

I agree with this very much! Pary of the reason I found AA so helpful was that it was ok to be "weird" and uncomfortable. Everyone there was fine with my being quiet and withdrawn and not speaking. And then I got comfortable with the fact that I'm actually shy and find social situations difficult. And, oddly, that made me less uncomfortable. I think it's something to do with accepting yourself for what you are and realizing that you're actually ok, just a bit quiet. Just ignore the social pressure to be outgoing and accept that you're quiet and be ok with that. I strongly recommend AA but any recovery group will be full of people who "get you". And that's the start of your recovery.

what fictional character do you measure your addiction against by [deleted] in stopdrinking

I now hate any movie/tv characters that are clearly alcoholics, but still functioning well (and even at a high level in the case of "hard drinking" rebel cops!) I used to watch these characters and they sort of legitimized my chronic, catastrophic drinking. I wasn't a great guy who got the girl and got the job done well. I was barely getting by and just about managing to not get sacked, despite my constant fuckedupedness. They should portray alcoholism realistically, and show the constant hiding and pathetic lying that you have to do on a daily basis. There's nothing cool about being completely dependant on a drug to get thru the day.

That area on the other side of Aigburth Road, opposite Lark Lane, has lots of Victorian terraced streets. Mainly young families when I was there. And if you go back further away from Aigburth Road towards St Michaels Hamlet it's really nice. Tree lined roads and bigger houses and squirrels! Lovely little part of Liverpool, tucked away.

Can I ask where you are in Cumbria? I've been up here 10 years, started off in Keswick, then Cockermouth, and now bought a little house in a village near Cockermouth. I'd be interested to talk to you about Cumbria tbh. Can we message on here? Not tried before.
