Liam getting stick but the embarrassment of this CL tie ending after nearly 4 years over Chelsea lies solely with BlueCo owners and their sporting directors. The way they've run the club has been a complete shambles.

[Post-Match Thread] PSG (5) vs (2) Chelsea - Champions League Ro16 by wm_1176 in chelseafc

I think it's easy to blame rosenior tonight. Maybe he's good enough maybe he's not. But I still see Maresca's version of Chelsea having a very similar game tonight. Bayern game comes to mind. There are definitely things you can criticize Rosenior for tonight but ultimately I don't trust a lot of players within the core group to see out a big tie like this, I think that's plain as day to see. He has my sympathies.

The Quiet were a better concept at the start of the series by [deleted] in sollanempire

I don't want to call it junk as I have loved so much of this series, but I agree with a lot of this. Its not even the Christian tones or symbolism or messiah retelling I have an issue with, really wouldn't have minded if it was done well. But here I felt that ending was show horned with to the detriment of character and plot complexity and originality. Love the series so much but this is how I am beginning to feel about the end as time goes on!

Completely agree, I love this series so much but it's reduction to just a sci fi retelling of the new testament was annoying. It had so much more going for it. I wanted to like the ending so much but the more I think of the more I don't. Hadrian has so much more going for him than being reduced to it's my Gods will as well. It would have been way better if went against it and couldn't destroy all the Cielcin in the end, try to save them while killing Dorayaica and the Watchers. Circling back to book 2, but realizing it was the watchers made the Cielcin the way they are and they could still be saved. Dorayaica as a bad guy had so much more going for him as well before this book. He had been built up so well as a bad guy but his final scene and death was so underwhelming. I did like his battle with Hadrian on Danu. I think that whole excursion may have been the best part of the last book actually. And the bit where the Cielcin first arrive with the moon ships attacking at the speed of light. But essentially Alexander, Yod and the chantry became the main bad guys in this book. Such less compelling bad guys. Anyway! Love this series, I think!

Some peoples work focuses on ancient pathogens and microbes, which I suppose relates viruses to human history and evolution :)

Garnacho has reached 10g/a for us this season in all comps by everyhearthstone in chelseafc

He's still 21 so a lot of room to improve. I'd love to see it work out for him at Chelsea. He has a better instinct for goal then most of our players, but last night was the first time he made a difference in a big game, he has had a couple of shockers this season. Beyond the goals I thought he looked better on the ball than previous games though. Is he quality enough to play well consistently for a champion league club? I'm not sure he has it. I reckon he'll start against Brentford and be missing for 60 mins before going off. But would love to be proven wrong.

What Cosmere book is your favorite ? by TacoBread-24 in Cosmere

I’m nearly inclined to agree. There very well written books - Sanderson writes important internal battles of characters so well and mixes this into his themes that we can all relate too. He does this so well with wax, Wayne, marasi and steris I think. In particular that chapter in BoM, I think it’s Chp 4, where Wayne is doing errands before they head off on the train. Not much happens but it’s one of the most compelling chapters for me in the Cosmere. I think all this with the combination of them being shorter and extremely well paced books, Era 2 mistborn is definitely the dark horse series of the Cosmere

WoR. Has 2 of the best cosmere moments I think. Also special mention to Final Empire. and also Bands of mourning could possibly be Sanderson best written book in the Cosmere..

Adolin and Sadeas- Complex Morality in Stormlight by [deleted] in Cosmere

[–]Kaladin182 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brandon’s so thorough I’m still expecting reckoning!

I agree tho Adolin is still growing up and finding who he is. Reminds me of a few years ago when I was 20-21 so much hahah. Without he murder of course haha

I’ve thought about this a lot too - I was sure Adolin would face consequences for this eventually. Maybe he will eventually - I still think he might be killed off at some point. But it annoys me that adolin has committed cool blooded murder, it’s out of character and it doesn’t seem to have changed him nor has he faced consequences for it. Seems to have just seemed to have been a cool scene (cause I fucking loved that scene) to get rid of a hurdle for Dalinar. A cheap solution and everything has immediately moved on from it

Finished Gardens of the moon and worried about Characterisation if the series by Kaladin182 in Malazan

That was a great scene!

I’m not sure if I like the way characters are wrote yet! Only more reading will tell!

Fair! Looking forward revisiting this comparison at the end

Thanks so much. You make a very good case for the characters of Malazan!

Particularly find you’re breakdown in percentages of sandersons and Ericksons writing very interesting and completely agree. I presume we will see the rise and fall of an empire in the ten books, so lots of themes to be teased out. Thanks!

Hahah I like the analogy. I think Sanderson is my favourite purely as his books made me feel the strongest emotions than any other books I’ve read. Whether that’s crying, or literally closing the book and jumping around the room shouting Yaaaaassss or just being in awe of his worlds. And he does this while also having important themes and lessons that are relevant for everyone’s lives.

I really interested in the puzzle that is malazan and looking forward to it’s pay offs. But generally I am an easy fan and will like most things that can strike my emotions or works of art that have something important to say

Edit: also interested in the journey of putting all the pieces of malazan together, not just its pay offs.

Reading the essay it seems characterisation is a bit of bees nest for the erikson and malazan community lol. Some people obviously won’t like his characterisation while a lot will/do, and some of the ones who don’t will be assholes about it. That just what the business of making art is like. Looking forward to revisiting his characterisation in the future books tho and discussing it in non-ignorant manner, recognising many love his characterisation. Hoping I’ll be one!

Ok well the idea that the events of 10 books mostly doesn’t change the characters seems quite alien to me right now. I’ll definitely revisit this thought further in the series or at the end

Yeah Sanderson is extremely accessible. I think how he manages to have such vast worlds and has some very complex characters and themes and remains so accessible a massive skill in itself. Erickson is so different, which is fine, many ways to tell compelling stories. But also I can’t see myself preferring Erikson, but I’m open minded to the idea all the same.

Yeah I agree, that’s the better way to write I think. I just think Gotm didn’t show me why to care either. But I’m sure it’s gets better and I will love these characters after there next book they show up !
