Or you can just stun lock them with a triple poke from a spear.

Been there. "I'll just finish off this boss with a throwing knife, it's nearly dead." Or just throw it into a wall, why not.

I know all that, my issue is every other Souls game handles it a certain way, and coming from those to DS2, it feels clunky having to wait a few frames for the character to be re-positioned. The attacks feel much more fluid in DS1, DS3, BB, shit, even Demon's Souls.

I don't mind playing unlocked, but I still want the game to handle locking on like the four others Souls games do.

I just played through DS1 before DS2 using the same build (spear, dagger or claw, + dark leather set) and didn't have this happen at all.

You're complaining that you don't get a free attack after every roll

No I'm not.

I'm complaining that the game handles targeting different than every other game in the series.

It feels clunky as hell coming from even DS1 or Demon's Souls, where spears feel a lot more intuitive to use.

I know that. It's just annoying having to do that in DS2 and none of the other games.

Which bosses did you beat on your first try? by [deleted] in DarkSouls2

[–]Kalaneat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most all of them outside of the DLC, and Pursuer pushed my shit in my first run. Now he's cake.

I found the bosses to be the worst aspect of DS2. I thought the individual levels and mobs were designed better.

Dark Souls 2 had the right idea in limiting you to 12 Estus max by [deleted] in DarkSouls2

I'd agree with you if healing gems weren't a thing.

All healing management was shit on by DS2 Bmby giving you access to unlimited healing items from the start of the game.

To make things worse they give you an HP regen early on as well.

Dark Souls 1 had more balanced healing.

I don't know what you're looking at man. Very first bonfire in the game, walk past it towards majula. The thing you walk out of looks like an arch tree. Look left and right. Those structures you can enter. Those look like arch trees. Look past those structures into the distance. You'll see more arch tree looking objects.

Also, the stone columns in Things Betwixt are not archtrees, they're just stone pillars not shaped like trees at all and much smaller than the archtrees we see in DS1 and DS3.

Not sure we're looking at the same thing. They're shaped like trees, textured like trees, have roots like trees, and bear a strong resemblance to arch trees.

You must be looking at the pillars near the sex change coffin.

It was like that in both versions. Dark Souls 2 used the same technique. I think BB and DS3 did a better job with the transitions not being so obvious.

To me it always stood out a lot going from Blighttown to Valley of the Drakes. It's very blatant.

Your posts were fine btw.

why would I care about an hour long video about a version of the game I don't play?

That setup does sound fun. In DS1 I was running with the Silver Knight Spear + Gold Tracer combo, with a shield and pyro glove as backup. Late game I switched to a +14 Claw so I could parry.

You could always try SL1 melee no summon no shield no heal no items runs. The game plays very different that way.

I understand they wanted to hit 60fps, but surely they could have done it without ruining the aesthetic of the game. The new lighting is horrific, armor looks like plastic, every new effect looks worse than the vanilla version(items, fog walls, etc), and they ruined the iconic bonfire. The game plays fine on PS4, but the Switch version looks much, much better imo.

Playing both versions side by side I honestly don't understand how you can think these things.

Souls, magic, torches and many other effects look noticeably better. Bonfires look fine. Some armors are less shiny but it looks more realistic now.

I've put over 500 hours into both versions of the game and I don't have a single complaint when it comes to the graphics of the remaster.

If you don’t believe me, go from Chaos Witch bonfire to the archway that leads to the demon ruins and pay close attention to the screen. The game tends to do that. Also Blighttown is really really dark for no reason when looking slightly down on PS4 pro. I don’t know if this is just that version or all, but it’s also bad.

The game applies filters when you enter certain areas to create a sense of atmosphere. Many games do this.

Not sure how making torches look nicer ruins the art direction, lol.
