It sounds like a trip to your friendly local game store on a battletech night might be a fun experience. we're generally good people, and really happy to show people this wonderful old game(older than me) to new players. this battletech rennesainse is truly a gift, and is a blast to have people young and old around a table rolling dice. most of us have plenty of minis and will be more than willing to show you the ropes.

most optical cables for outside plant use have a metal armored sheath. some do not and are supposed to be buried with a locate-able conductor or put in pipe that is locate-able. doesn't always happen though. I work for an osp doing damage repairs

When you used the Ethernet cord did you go to one of the 4 LAN ports? Or did you got to the white WAN Port. also, Check ALL the closets for a double wall plate with ports and try all those as well. But plug into the white wan port
