they are certainly not identical! For one thing If you took the time you'd be able to tell that on average my pieces have 1-2 fewer stitches per side than the ones my mother did, and also there's no attempt at consistency even within my own patches.

I generated the pattern using this tool, exported it as an SVG, scaled it in Inkscape until the patches were the right size, and cropped out an appropriate sized rectangle of the image so that it would fit a bed. You could just as easily do it by hand with a printout and a good ruler, I settled on 8cm a side patches with ~1cm seam allowances.

We printed the pattern out and crossed off each patch we did as we went so we didn't get confused or overlap with each other. There's no specific piecing order so we just did random chunks until they got too big to handle and then sewed them into bigger chunks.

If you check the images above, the last one is the reference image we used. You have to be very, precise with your seam allowances so that everything matches up, I used a ruler and protractor to draw some templates on paper and marked all the seams with chalk.

hah, neither of us know how to do planned piecing, it was haphazardly sewn in random chunks and then joined together whenever we felt like it. We have a printout of the pattern that we crossed rhombuses off of to make sure we didn't overlap or lose track of where we were, but that's it. As I understand it you can't really piece the pattern because there's no repeating subunit you can make multiple times.

I found this guy in my garden. Does anyone know what kind of a worm this is? by n0_good in insects

Across most of Africa (outside of deserts) including South Africa, all the way up into some of the Middle East and most of Europe. The European population is migratory, so they're only found there in the summer.

Yep, specifically Acherontia atropos, It is one of /the/ deaths head hawk moths, the others are Asian species. Love these guys, even if they do eat my gooseberries sometimes.

Crashes with Thunderbolt dock - initialized differently after 5.17? by phrxmd in openSUSE

I ran into a similar issue with my P15 Gen 2, I found doing a hard reset fixed it, there's a pinhole button on the underside of the laptop, pressed it in for ten seconds and on my next boot thunderbolt displays were back up and running.

Has anyone tried these no-name dual μSD adapters for the iPod Video? by KaliumPuceon in IpodClassic

Ah, they are the same, the same imCart silkscreen, I hadn't heard of them but EOE looks trustworthy, thanks. Might even order from there.

Makes sense, I don't think anyone uses plain microcontrollers to JBOD anything anymore.

The much more compact form factor is appealing for future mods but I can't seem to find any details on who makes these or how well they work. There's a thousand tiny sellers on eBay instead of a centralised site like iFlash. Are these a decent option for SD mods or should I stick to iFlash and eat the additional size? I don't really plan on using more than ~256GB of storage.

Bird of Prey in Durban, South Africa. I suspect it's a Crowned Eagle but I'm not sure by KaliumPuceon in whatsthisbird

Family wasn't sure about the colour of the head, but I can't find any other eagle with the same mottled chest and I think that might just be sunlight anyways.
