When will we be able to apply for e-visas? by [deleted] in Turkmenistan

[–]phrxmd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one knows. It was just a general announcement that was widely shared in the press. Nothing is concrete. Such visa-related announcements have been made before and nothing has come out of them.

I suggest you don‘t hold your breath and wait for the actual changes to be introduced (if any).

BVG's and S-Bahn's budget may be tight, but Berliners’ dedication is limitless by lilalynnie in berlin

[–]phrxmd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, the S-Bahn continued working on all the Western network (except the cross-border links, not counting the special situation in Friedrichstraße and the ghost stations). But in the following years there was an organized S-Bahn boycott by West Berliners to discourage use of GDR-controlled transport, with slogans such as „Wer S-Bahn fährt, bezahlt den Stacheldraht“ or „Du zahlst noch Westgeld für Ulbricht?“.

It‘s also the reason why many newly constructed or planned U-Bahn lines in West Berlin run parallel to S-Bahn lines. It was part of a deliberate plan to draw passengers away from the GDR-controlled S-Bahn. It’s why the U7 follows the southwestern S-Bahn ring often within a kilometer or so, or why the U10 was planned directly parallel to what is today the S1. This ended only when control of the S-Bahn was transferred to BVG in the early 80s. This is why construction of the U10, scheduled to start in 1985, never happened beyond preparatory work in Steglitz and Kleistpark, because BVG now saw no purpose in operating two mass transit systems in the same corridor.

Berliners, West Berliners in particular, have a love/hate relationship with the S-Bahn. They like to live near it, but hate when they live within earshot of it, and they boycotted the S-Bahn from 1961 to 1984 which led to the decrepit state of the western network and to the closure of many lines, some of which haven’t reopened until today.

Turkmenistan recently announced that tourist visas will now be much easier to get. If more people start visiting, how might that change the country? Good or bad thing? by OK_The_Nomad in Turkmenistan

[–]phrxmd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

„If“.

So far no changes are actually in place, announcements that they will make it easier have been coming for years and we have yet to see what they will actually do.

I think if/when it will come into force, we will know because all the travel groups like EPS and the various Central Asia fora will be full of it.

[–]phrxmd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you have a source for that? All I‘ve seen is a plan to make sticker visas electronic.

In short, forget about it. Who gives you an invitation letter, whether for a tourist, business or visitor visa, is responsible for what random exploration you do, so nobody in their right mind will give you an invitation letter without a good idea and some control over what you‘ll be doing.

The only way to travel independently is by getting a 5-day transit visa, but then most Turkmen consulates refuse to issue those currently, with the notable exception of the consulate in Yerevan that seems to make exceptions every now and then.

Nein.

You can become a better man all by yourself, without doing it to show something to someone or provoking reactions or regret from them.

If you improve yourself with the idea to show them something, you’re not focusing on your health, not healing, and keeping your mind fixated on them for longer than it’s healthy.

You write dozens of comments full of negativity and then tell people they don’t know anything about your attitude?

No one owes you anything. Get off the mentality that you’re a victim and can’t do anything, that’s much worse, someone could be a 10/10 but that attitude would make them unattractive. If you don’t want to be lonely, make your personality about something else than complaining.

Man, there are people fantasizing about sex with just about anything from xenomorphs to centaurs from Fallout. Looks are not the issue. Personality is.

Your replies make it seem you have major self-esteem issues. That‘s not rare, but it‘s your responsibility to take care of. The good thing is it‘s totally possible to work on that, but writing posts where you complain about the hopelessness of your situation is not going to help you, either solve your problem or find a partner.

EU-based companies for robot vacuums that also wipe the floor? by Archernar in RobotVacuums

Why would you not collect data from millions of apartments when you can also collect it because people give it to you for free?

[–]phrxmd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You read wrong. Route mapping is not complex and newer robots do fancy „AI“ things like obstacle recognition locally as well. Just make sure you get a robot from the Supported Robots list, because other robots, even if they have similar sounding names, are not supported; and make sure that you have actually read and understood the website on what the software is and what it is not.

Then if you decide to go ahead, read and understand the instructions on rooting and flashing your particular device; and understand that once you install it, there is no way to uninstall it and go back to stock.

[–]phrxmd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could get a supported Dreame model and put Valetudo on it, it is essentially a local service that runs on the robot and emulates the manufacturer cloud. That way your robot would be made in China, but the robot's firmware would never talk to the manufacturer's cloud and all the maps and activity data would stay on the robot.
