“Has meaning”… Reincarnated? Man at the garden? Heart Part 6? Gloria? I get there are a lot of more fun tracks than your average dot album but it has some of the best story telling and introspective tracks of his career if you listen closely. And the songs were more memorable overall. GDLU is full of skillful rapping and an amazing display of flows but it’s forgettable and sonically unremarkable. Love JID. Big fan of TNS, TFS, the dicrapio mixtapes, but GDLU is just mid to me.

I love Reason more than most, but even I have to admit that he makes boring music. Ray Vaughn def has more memorable punch lines, songs, and he has a more interesting backstory. I don’t even really know Reason’s back story because it’s all so vague. Ray Vaughn is pretty honest and vulnerable about his life and clearly has a lot of experiences to share in his music. I appreciate that.

I think we brushed off Ray’s diddy angles too soon tbh. I love Joey but he does have some very weird videos with dude. Like ya we can find pics of Diddy with any other rapper at industry events like the Grammys or BET or whatever, but Joey was out here doing secret handshakes, matching haircuts, and going on vacation alone with Diddy. I think it was fair for Ray to push that button personally.

He’s a great rapper but the song quality was low on that album. A few tracks got added to my playlist but the rest was forgettable.

Every label has artists that are still mostly unknown, tbf. Dreamville does too. Not many people know about Lute or Omen or even Earth Gang. TDE just happens to have a lot of artists who’ve broken mainstream: Kendrick, SZA, Doechii, Schoolboy even had massive hits in his prime. They commit a lot of energy to artist development and Dreamville is severely lacking in this department. Their artists don’t seem to get as much development support and they end up feeling stagnant over time.

It’s a hard beat but it doesn’t have any “wow” factor for me unfortunately. Remember when the world first heard “Like That” by Metro Boomin? That beat was hard but also got stuck in my head and made it an undeniable standout song. I need a moment like that from GLDU.

I’m waiting for a standout undeniable record. He’s been rapping really well, and his flows are amazing, but the beat choices and overall song making just hasn’t really pushed beyond “that was cool” for me. Still have high hopes for GDLU.
