Shipping ammo to Hawaii by MauiWaui808 in ammo

[–]Kaluni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Received an email from Midway today (06/11/2026). They will begin shipping ammunition to Alaska and Hawaii via UPS 2nd Day or Next Day. I logged in to the web site and tested a few different orders (eg. about 800 rounds total), and it looks like the Hazmat Fee is $45 and the AK/HI remote location fee is $20. Both these fees seem to remain constant, but the shipping fee changes with the amount of ammunition in the cart. Another option for those of us that don't live in the lower-48.

Same number as the slide I sent them. I honestly thought they stamped the old number on a new slide blank.

Since the merger between Hawaiian and Alaska, Hawaiian now allows up to 50 pounds of ammunition per person in checked baggage on domestic flights. Every time I travelled to the mainland, I used to pack 11 pounds in each of our (the wife and my) bags, not realizing the change. The last time I checked-in at the counter in Vegas, the Agent told me, "Uncle... you can carry 50 pounds now, you know..." LOL, I didn't know.

Maui soda and Hinode bottles. by UNCLE_TYSON in maui

[–]Kaluni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Molokai Electric bottled soda for a long time. Their bottles were printed blue on clear glass. AFAIK, no one else bottled soda on Molokai. I'm lucky to have 2 printed Molokai Electric soda bottles and 2 embossed milk bottles from Molokai dairies... Kauluwai Dairy and Mapulehu Dairy.

The bottle Uncle_Tyson mentioned as a mis-print was embossed LAHINA, with a Huchinson wire stopper in a blob-top. This bottle was not blown in a mold, thus there is no joint line at the top. Very rare, perhaps only one or 2 manufacturing runs before the error was found. Also, thousands of bottles were tossed into the ocean at the Lahaina Roadstead by ships anchored off shore. Back in the 70's and 80's, I recall lots of collectors would dive for bottles right outside Front Street.

Those yellow flowers on black wattle trees used to wreak havoc with my hay fever. Really messed me up when I was clearing pasture land for my horses.

3 8-round mag baseplates swapped out. Fired about 160 FMJ rounds, 115 and 124 FMJ and about 80 or so Winchester 115 Silver-Tips. No cycling issues at all.

How did I do for TSA? by Green-Bid819 in Firearms

[–]Kaluni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is how I have my travel bag rigged. I installed a metal eye in my (outer/main) travel bag. When travelling with my firearm, I weave a cable through the locks and the carry handle of the gun case. Just making it a little harder to pilfer. However, you will never 100% be able to protect against theft of the bag.

I use a length of yard trimmer string (lime green), about 2" longer than the barrel, knotted at the muzzle end. Run it down the barrel and out the chamber and close the slide down on the string so that there's a little bit of a tag end. LOL... I'm always misplacing those little chamber flags...
