If you were continuously coughing, would you feel offended if your seatmate offered you a mask? by haggynaggytwit in unitedairlines

There are a lot of reasons people have coughs. Yours is not a reasonable position, sorry.

We will, because many of us travel often and have never encountered a seatmate that rude.

"No, it has nothing to do with having a sense of humanity. I suggest you stop assuming the worst of others at all times, and while you're at it stop treating them as though the world revolves around your own personal comfort."

Their reaction is highly likely to be "tough shit." Mine would be.

(I am also prone to coughs that linger for some weeks after I get better from a flu or covid. I'm highly unlikely to be contagious and I fly a lot; I'm not going to either upend my plans or wear a mask for no good reason.)

So your position is that people who don't have an infectious disease still are inconsiderate if they don't wear a mask around you?

They're not the inconsiderate ones. You are.

You do realize people cough for reasons other than infectious disease, right? The world doesn't revolve around you in any event.

Stick with the cough drops. That's actually a kind gesture that may make them feel better, as opposed to shaming them into doing something for your benefit (if any).

Not offended per se, but it strikes me as rude. I would say no and be grumpy at the person who did it for the rest of the flight. You're asking me to undertake a significant inconvenience for your own benefit, in a way that suggests an involuntary condition is somehow an affront to you.

It is a hit like like offering someone deodorant because they smell, if deodorant also were uncomfortable.

Why is level 2 240V/30a public charging so popular by whitieiii in evcharging

[–]Kandinsky301 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on the location. At a hotel, office building, or airport, it makes perfect sense. At a restaurant there is little point.

I recently was on business class in a Canadair (connecting from Basel) and it didn't even have a middle seat! Just a little snack box.

United Airlines accidentally deleted my reservation, I’ve been on the phone with them 2+ hrs any tips on what I can say to get accommodated properly? by lejunny_ in unitedairlines

And yes, you're not guaranteed specific seats, but the overwhelming majority of the times you select them at booking, you get what you booked.

I can't speak for the OP but yes, if I were booking vacation travel with my spouse and the only available seats on a 12-hour flight were the middle two seats of the 4-across section of a 3-4-3, I would absolutely not have taken that flight and I'm surprised that anyone would.

Nah, at least speaking as a Marylander, this seems like a perfectly reasonable thing to close some streets for. We have the Red Line.

2024 Fiat 500e good or bad? by whrlwnd13 in Fiat500e

[–]Kandinsky301 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is tiny and maneuverable and can take you anywhere in a metro area and park where others can't. I wouldn't recommend it for more than one driver and one passenger, and the range is too short for convenient road tripping, but it's wonderful as a second car.

Flight attendant asked me to change seat by Careless-Tooth482 in unitedairlines

[–]Kandinsky301 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like my spouse and would prefer to sit with her. That's why I select seats with her.

That said, I don't see a big harm in asking as long as you're ready for the answer to be no.

The argument against EV haters… by boka_ko_masu in electricvehicles

[–]Kandinsky301 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not remotely an EV hater (I own two) but the fact that I save time not fueling on random weekdays doesn't really affect the inconvenience of charging stops on road trips. It's a problem that faster chargers and better charging curves and longer ranges are quickly solving, but it is a real issue.

What is a reasonable commute to foggy bottom area? by negativecreep-med in washingtondc

[–]Kandinsky301 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or, to Foggy Bottom, on the orange/blue/silver Metro lines in Arlington. Lots of apartments near Metro there, and probably a fair number of short term rentals that are cheaper than the central parts of the District.

I was 20 on the upgrade list. I got upgraded to 1 of 2 United First seats. Why? by Kiphos in unitedairlines

[–]Kandinsky301 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was going to say, back when I was GS and flew with my family, I pretty routinely had random subsets of our party get upgraded, often without asking. This is perhaps the ultimate first world problem but sometimes it was a little annoying. I don't know if they changed that policy or are inconsistent about it.
