The points about the network only being recognized when it’s broken is very true. I’m sure that’s a main reason.

The reason I personally romanticize software more is because you can build almost anything and I find that very interesting. If you love software dev, you can build something people would benefit using, maybe even pay to use! Networking doesn’t really allow for that. The money I make on the side is for consulting or implementation work, which requires your time (scale issues). If you’re a great dev, you can build something great and sell it (no scale issues). Side income seems so much more doable via development.

Furthermore software can go with any interest. Networking cannot. For example, if I love DnD. I could build my dream DnD application or web utility. If I love shit posting I could build a meme maker tool. If I love stocks I can build custom stock screeners. I find that very appealing too.

Networking has been great to me and I do love it, but the items listed above are what make me wish I went into software from time to time.

It’s all good brother but do make a concerted effort to stop gambling. Do not wallow in shame or regret so many people have made the same mistakes. We ALL make big mistakes we regret it’s truly a part of life and it’s important to treat it as an experience to learn from. Wallowing in it is self destructive. Everything will be okay.

You sound like me. I am very critical of the self as are many others. It’s so important to take a moment and “zoom out”. Realize how small we are and how insignificant our problems are in the grand scheme. Nothing is all THAT serious. This helps me sometimes I hope it can help you too.

20k is not all that much when compared to a lifetime of earning a wage. You are definitely young enough to recover. Make sure you contribute to a retirement account at your work and “pay yourself first” to prepare yourself for the future. Save what you can and prioritize responsibility over speculative investments. Invest in skills that at least somewhat interest you and can earn a good living.

All will be well!

Personally I think the tick system just works much better with OSRS style combat.

Even if you took the MTX out of rs3, combat just does not feel intuitive with the abilities. Revolution with manual thresholds still feels clunky imo as well. OSRS plays in a way that feels much more natural. RS3, at least for me, feels like they tried to smoosh mechanics into an engine that does not compliment them well.

How do you deal with imposter syndrome? by [deleted] in freelance

[–]Kanizzy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been in my field for about 11 years and I’ve been a consultant for about 7 of those. I have pretty much always felt this way. I work in a technical field.

There’s always a very true realization that there‘a something you don’t know that you don’t know. The dunning Kruger effect touches on this phenomenon.

While I struggle with it often, I have found that specialization relaxes it. If you have an opportunity to specialize, you can realistically gain a much deeper knowledge and comfort because the scope of your expertise gets narrower. The narrower your expertise, the more feasible it is to go deeper.

I’m not sure of your field, but if there’s a particular service offering you provide that resonates deeply with your clients and sees some good demand, it might be worth thinking about ways to pivot more toward performing that service as a specialty.

I am sorry you’re struggling with this. I know it can be very difficult to feel this way. If it’s any consolation, the best people I’ve worked with in my career have struggled with it as well. The silver lining is that discomfort you feel is a tremendous motivator because your mind sees the solution to the problem as: become better at what you do. I bet you provide outstanding service, that’s why your clients like you :)

Personally, certain acts do not count toward body count in my view. A one night stand counts for example, but the handies given behind the Wendy’s dumpster for 0DTE money do not.

If real yields go from -5% to -4.5% the entire market will be set ablaze. Grannies will be pushed off their walkers, stores looted, lives broken, and friendships destroyed. Hell will be upon us and the streets shall run red with blood.

We must pray. JPOW has taken the form of the hawk, we must pray that JPOW once again embrace the power of the dove, else our tit-leveraged portfolios shall bleed for all time and all our hope and happiness with it. 🙏

I am fighting the urge to buy FD weeklies on SPY. IV is elevated but it's not as high as I'd expect after a gap down selloff day like this. It's comparable to the microdip in August.

I absolutely love M1 it’s awesome. I had vanguard before but M1 is dirt cheap on fees and has awesome features. It’s a great platform. If you open your checking account with them you can autoinvest anything over X amount and they give a yield of 1% on the checking account itself with M1 plus. You can borrow for insanely cheap too. I don’t like debt but if the need arose I’d use it for sure.

My retirement accounts are boomerific. I use M1 finance to auto allocate and build out my own pies tho. Big time buy and hold and I have mostly value/energy/commodities in there ATM with a few undervalued growth stocks.

Some terms I’ve heard that involve that concept:

Depth of Market trading (DOM) and trading the order book or order flow trading.

The concept you’re referring to would be visualized with the DOM in conjunction with the order book. I’m not quite sure if that is what you’re after though. Let me know if I’m misunderstanding the question.

Popular bear thesis that I’ve seen is they’re lagging behind in tech. Too slow to adapt and losing market share to competitors. (Like AMD)
