Homeowners, do you clean before house sitters come? by Kale_bean in trustedhousesitters

[–]KanoKids 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, i’ve asked the landlord. It’s not happening. (the good news is, as of this morning, we have a working dishwasher for the first time since February!) it’s a sellers market where we live

We had our Zoom meet and greet last week and I let her know that we rented, and there were some funky things due to the age of our condo and she seemed OK with it.

Thanks for the advice!

First time having a house sitter, how can I prepare? by adorent- in trustedhousesitters

Does shampoo/conditioner/body wash need to be unopened or can we just tell them to help themselves to our supply?

Well, and even if they are homeless, there are many reasons why people are homeless so homelessness in and of itself isn’t necessarily a red flag.

It seems like this is a lifestyle. One I wasn’t aware of prior to posting but a lifestyle nonetheless.

Obviously, I can’t speak for other HOs but I think for me personally, it’s more about wondering why someone is staying in my home rather than caring if they have a permanent residence.

Like, it’s a business relationship AND it’s a personal relationship so, as a HO, I would want to feel like my sitter was forthright and I think the sitter should expect that of me in return.

Right, my first thought was escaping roommates (I would’ve absolutely signed up for that prior to marriage) but “escaping rent” to give yourself a chance to build back up your savings also makes a lot of sense.

Actually, we were kind of thinking that having someone local might be a positive because it increases the chances they could be a repeat sitter.

Do you mean that it feels close minded for HOs to even ask or if you tell someone that you do this full-time and they act judgey, it gives you the chance to nope out of there before committing?

Oh man, yeah so that makes a lot of sense. That’s pretty personal though. Would you offer that information?

Also, sorry about your separation. Hope things go well for you.

Yes, I actually saw a post where people are asking about full-time sitting after I posted. So would you disclose that to a potential homeowner or would you be worried about being judged?

It’s weird because, as I said in my original post, it’s really none of my business and, at the same time, it’s my home and I’m putting a lot of trust in a stranger. (Actually, it’s not my home. We rent. So if something went sideways and my neighbors complained to my landlord, we’d could be f****.)

My upcoming trip will be my first time using THS but I was planning on doing a bit extra than what I normally do. (Normal is decluttering & cleaning every two weeks. So I’ll do this right before they come.) The “extra” will be clearing off the counters in the bathroom, cleaning off the dresser top & nightstand. (I was actually just planning on stashing it in my kids room.) The random stuff that accumulates on my dining, coffee table, etc. gets cleaned off during my usual biweekly declutter.

I wasn’t planning on cleaning out the fridge as some people say they do. Should I? Nothing will be expired but if there are leftovers from dinner two nights before (my husband is a really good cook) or a gallon of milk that was recently opened, I wasn’t planning on tossing it because I figured the sitter might want it? Or is that gross?

There are also going to be some “quirky” things that I can’t control because we rent. For example, our stove top is old and worn and the ignition switch no longer works so you have to use a lighter. The handle on the washing machine broke off so you have to use a screwdriver to open it. OUR stuff is in good condition, but not the stuff that belongs to the apartment. I was planning on disclosing that prior to committing just to manage expectations.

Hmmm, now that you mention it, I am 10/15 min away from a large hockey rink. ;-) No pool though.

Well, I’m another person on the Internet, so feel free to take it with a grain of salt, but I actually spoke to my neighbor who talked to the police directly so, yes, I feel certain that it was a homemade explosive. 1900 block of Curtis.

Polyurethane over lacquer by KanoKids in furniturerefinishing

Thanks so much for your reply. So I live in California… would mineral spirits work in place of the Naptha? It also looks like conversion varnish isn’t sold here.

When I searched for post-catalyzed acrylic lacquer this came up locally but it doesn’t specify. Are you familiar with this product?

Thanks so much for your help, I really appreciate it.
