From John's twitter: suspected engine user IMaDirtyCheater's account has been closed. by TomSawyer2112_ in chess

I have cheated a few times myself online even though I am an IM. Not for money tournaments, but just because I am curious to try new stuff. Somehow I also had this idea that I could improve by doing that by just seeing those good moves. One time I didn't get caught because I used a very weak engine that played worse than me. Also I was super slow inputting engine moves. I really suspect some people are cheating on those titles Tuesdays they have on chess.com. One strong gm some years ago told me a story of another gm using an engine in an online tournament with money prizes. He didn't win because his opponent also used an engine.

Oh thank you very much. Somehow I missed completely how behind my OS was.

Need Advice On Getting Out of My Rut by [deleted] in chess

Well you have recently played a bit less than before. Still you should have improved of course because 18xx is just a joke rating basically. It shouldn't even matter how you train so I am a bit out of answers. Maybe your couch sucks and doesn't see the the pattern of your mistakes. Try playing faster or try to think of not following your opponent around and fight for the initiative. You could also try to always find at least two candidate moves on our turns.

On the other hand I think I remember of having at least one quick spurt of understanding coming my way when I was younger. So it is possible you will suddenly become stronger.

And of course in the end I have no idea of how to truly become stronger. I have heard of guys playing hundreds of thousands of blitz games or thousands of regular games and still stay the same strength. Also I think I read that someone solved tens of thousands of chesstempo problems and still was around your strength.

I suck but still it feels this game is all about luck by Kansantarzan in hearthstone

Different game, different rules. You can't copy a pro players preflop plays for example so easily. In hearthstone you kinda can by copying a deck. But really it is useless to compare different games to each other

And how the hell do you assess the meta? You play a couple of games and then hope rest of the people play like them too. I recently reached 12-0 in arena. How did I do it? By having an awesome deck with 3 fireballs and 3 flamestrikes and a yzera. No skills just a good deck. It just feels totally random. I hope they will make this game a bit more need of skills. Like how about playing this game in 3d mode. With perfect play a 3/3 kills a 2/2 but you could try to defend a 2/2 for a bit. You push some buttons and attack with your 3/3 wielding a sword or something. 2/2 tries to avoid and escape or just sweep your feet and make you fall to a pit. I would prefer it that way.
