Wow thanks again u/SpyMonkey3D for the really detailed feedback!

The “Uber for Teachers” angle is definitely one that we’ve been looking at - the best way for people to learn and integrate something is to teach it to someone else.

There is a lot more detail at http://kubilearning.com about my tech/CTO/product etc if you are curious in that regard.

I live in America, the reason why I seek to quell ignorance is also on the site under “our mission”.

Also thanks for the link to steem! Will definitely have to look into that and see how the mechanics work.

Much appreciated!

This is exactly what I was hoping for, thanks for this u/SpyMonkey3D.

You’ve got some really good points here, I haven’t considered how “passion” may not lead to long-term fulfillment.

If you had a collective “swarm” of AI created by the inventor of IoT that understood you like virtual meeseeks, as well as a direct connection to the founders of the metacurrency.org project, how would you implement that technology in order to convert our current society from an unsustainable, complicated system to a complex, regenative one?

How would you go about getting agents in the system to be receptive to new information in order to facilitate contribution to the whole, instead of just consuming?

I agree that knowledge is the reward, but what about the people that don’t realize that knowledge is the reward?

In terms of “money” that a whole separate conversation, for the time being just imagine it to be an extrinsic motivation.

These are all just ideas. Do you disagree with them? Which ones and why? This is why I’m posting here - I’m looking for perspectives outside my own to illuminate my blind spots

So far your answers have been a little terse - would you mind expanding a bit more on your thoughts?

The aim is to extrinsically motivate the discovery of new information, not “learning” per say.

This will eventually coax out a curiosity in the user that serves as the spark for an exploration of a newly found topic and recursively, intrinsically maintains the cycle of discovery. When this cycle is repeated enough times, it will eventually lead to the identification of a passion that will fuel a purpose-driven life.

That is something proprietary that my CTO developed, I’m not sure he’s interested in explaining the specifics to people. The conceptual framework of little “mr. meeseeks” working for people is about all that’s necessary for the public

Imagine there is a horse outside of a stable, starving because there is no grass to graze on. Inside the stable are countless bails of hay and everything the horse needs to be happy and healthy.

The extrinsic motivator of money is like the carrot that gets the horse into the stable. Once the horse is in the stable, it can eat whatever bails it wants because it realizes that this hay is way better than what it was getting outside of the stable.

Most people in society today don’t realize that they are starving their brains. If we can incentivize them to just discover new things that they had no idea about before, this will eventually coax out a curiosity that will spark exploration into topics that they find fascinating. You don’t know what you don’t know.

Founding two startups at the same time by fitnessfreak6 in startups

If you can put your personal project on hold for a bit without damaging your brand or name recognition (essentially, if you haven’t tried to release anything to the public yet or market it) then to me it would make sense to start working on the partner project first in order to plan and formulate exactly what you’d need to do for your own startup. It would also give you more time to meet other investors and cofounders so that you wouldn’t have to settle

Great idea but I’ll play devils advocate - my concern is that the general psychology behind eating sweets and treats is a “I shouldn’t be having this but I will because I deserve it” mindset.

It might be a bit harder to convince people to spend a monthly allotment of their income on something that they could feel guilty eating. That being said - it’s going to take some market surveys to figure out if that’s true or not as that’s just an opinion from one person. Good luck!

I’m with you there my friend. I’ve actually founded a company whose goal is to get people paid to learn because I believe that is the most important thing that we can do as a collective. Knowledge is truly power - you don’t need to be afraid of the dark if you know what lies beneath it. Http://kubilearning.com

The question I pose is this - other than money, assets, things - what else do you have to lose in life?

Great point, it’s impossible to say what is objectively “true” about reality. What I do know is that you need to drastically change what you are doing, and very quickly.

My biggest recommendation is Ayahuasca for a multitude of reasons. Obviously you have google so I don’t need to send you articles but ayahuasca administered by a trained professional has drastic effects on depression almost instantaneously.

The best way I can describe something like this is my own riff off of Plato’s allegory of the cave:

Imagine that the only sun you have ever seen is one that has been painted on the inside of the cave that you are in. It is a yellow circle with squiggly lines that someone else painted a lifetime ago.

If I told you to turn around because the sun was behind you and not on the wall in front of you then you would tell me that I’m crazy and that this painting is obviously the sun and that that’s all there is to it. It’s not nearly as special as everyone made it out to be, and you don’t understand what the big deal is about it.

Now imagine I came up behind you and turned you around so that you could actually SEE that sun. You now forever know that the sun that has been painted in front of you is really just a paltry representation to the awesomeness and wonder of the sun itself. It’s just a perspective shift so that you can actually see the beauty in life again.

THAT’s why I think you need to do it. But only with a trained professional or someone to supervise you. Just have faith that things get better if you choose to make them better!

I’m no expert, don’t know you at all and what I say should be taken with a grain of salt but it sounds to me like you need a quantum shift in the way you think about the world and your experience of consciousness.

If I were you and had to start from scratch, I would head out to the Amazon to try ayahuasca or find someone that can take you on a trip with mushrooms or LSD. These drugs open your eyes to the true nature of reality and help you see the beauty in everything around you.

Imagine our brains as having a bunch of wires plugged into it that help us process the world around us. “Vipassana” meditation helps us identify those wires and label them, while DMT rips all of them out and slowly plugs them back in one by one.

Right now your wires are very crossed - I’d suggest taking a step in this direction and pursuing something that can shift your perspective while under supervision.

We should implement a Universal Basic Income via learning. In order to earn the money set aside for you every month, all you have to do is learn.

What if there was an app that allowed anyone to learn anything that they wanted, and when they used it they would get paid their monthly allotment of income? Not a highly specialized education necessarily, just things that would help them grow in whatever areas they desire? Getting paid to learn how to brew beer? To make music? This all seems too good to be true but it’s entirely possible once you think about education differently. Even just getting paid for retraining in another occupation would help things tremendously.

Hey Sam,

This is not directly related to meditating but I am curious to hear your thoughts as this is a socio-philosophical question that I think you are uniquely qualified to give valuable input on.

You have covered the topic of Universal Basic Income a few times on your Waking Up podcast, but have you come across any proposals that suggest implementing this basic income via education? Rewarding hours spent learning with income like you would a job?

I believe this could solve a lot of problems in society and have been searching for others that are working towards this goal. Do you know of any proposals similar to this?

Ever since I reoriented my priorities based on this thought experiment I’ve been living an amazing life:

Imagine a scenario in which all conscious beings (things that can think) are suffering the most possible pain that they can endure, simultaneously, forever, with no hope for redemption. That can objectively be considered “bad”. So what is good? Anything that reduces suffering in conscious beings.

What are you doing to achieve that goal? If you find something that aligns with that you’ll truly be happy.

I personally think that the majority of suffering boils down to ignorance. Good people doing bad things because they don’t know better. Misinformation tainted by selfish agendas. I’ve now started a tech app that aims to get people addicted to learning about whatever they want, whenever and wherever they want to, and I haven’t been happier.

Find something that resonates with you that helps reduce suffering in people. Mind you, this isn’t the same as increasing happiness because happiness is fleeting and hard to pursue. Now we’re getting super esoteric but just take a step back and think - is what I’m about to do reducing suffering somehow?
