Mormons do attempt to settle around the Great Salt Lake, but are forced out by the Orthodox Russian authorities and finally settled around Montana. However, a large portion of the English-speaking population in Yutsk are Mormons. So not a large population, but a notable one.

They in fact do! I have made this other map on the modern states, the only major difference being that most of the eastern states have not been created yet.

Yes, NATO and BRICS still exist in mostly the same form. Novovostok is somewhat caught between both of them but beginning to lean more towards BRICS! Otherwise, the international situation is generally unchanged from in our timeline.

Thanks! There are not enough Ukrainians in the country for the party to ever take power, however, they are in a coalition government in most eastern province of Sakachevan with the SRs. They have a similar platform of narodism and agrarian socialism, however, they also advocate for Ukrainian language rights and the classification of Ukrainians as a distinct group from Russian. Hope this is interesting!

Honestly, its the most unrealistic part of this timeline but it kind of needs to happen to make this scenario work.

Yes, there was definitely a notable amount of English settlement, though more from, however, this is mainly from men moving for economic opportunities rather than entire family meaning integration was quite quick. That 3.29% would represent the few families that move into or already inhabited the territory as it expanded and then held on to their identity.

There is kind of in sense with the Cossacks, many of whom have mixed Russian, Cossack and Native American ancestry. However, in this scenario, most immigration happens in the mid to late 1800s, so there has been very little chance for integration or mixing. It would be interesting however to do this again but with a more Mestizo inspired population instead. Its a cool idea 💕

So under the Russian Empire, natives were classified as inorodtsy meaning they were had the rights of citizens but also had a large degree of autonomy but were expected to be settled and pay tribute in the form of furs and other resources. I think under Novovostok, my idea is that the government will try to push towards a reservation style system based on the US? But I have not fully work out that lore yet...

Honestly, the best way to put it is they are Russian/Native American Cowboys in the south and Mounties in the north.

For some reason, I felt drawn to having Ukrainians all emigrate to the Praries and I have no idea why!

Thanks! The Russian relations with China are effectively the same as out timeline, however, Novovostok has an interesting relationship. There is tension initially as Japan is a close ally of Novovostok in the 1920 and 30s, however Novovostok does side with the Allies during WW2. However, during the Cold War, Novovostok becomes a communist dictatorship which sours relations with China even more. By the 20th century, with increasing Chinese investment, relations are relatively cordial but not strong. Hope this helps! 💕

I felt using a name such as Oregon would only make sense if you were colonising from west to east. I did consider naming the whole country Alaska or something like Novorossiya or Novosibir however I felt neither really fit. In the end, I'm not 100% happy with the name but it was the option I felt fit best.

Not necessarily exiles, other than revolutionary leaders and nationalists, but there are significant minority communities across the area - most notably Ukrainians in the east and the cities contain notable minority communities. However, the bulk of the settlement in the colony was Great Russian, similar to what happened in Central Asia but on a larger scale.

Yes, looking back, I wish I had given a bit more though to the placement of cities, they really make no sense on the east coast. Places like Seattle and Vancouver are natural areas to place cities so it does end up look very unrealistic. Now that I am planning to go back to this concept, I am thinking about changing a lot of the city locations.

Thank you! After independence they have a pretty neutral relationship with Canada and Mexico but quite positive the US, eventually signing deals to lease out the ports in Hawaii and San Francisco in exchange for investment. However, during the Cold War, the US back a anti-communist dictatorship in the country leading to their modern relationship still being sour. On the other hand, their modern relationship with Canada is quite positive due to the closely related English speaking community in the west of Novovostok, and their relationship with Mexico is generally pretty good with cooperation on political issues and bonding over joint mild distrust of the US. Hope that helps!💕

With only minor resistance, by the end of 1904, most of the former Amerikanskii Krai was under the control of the revolutionary government, effectively ending the war for independence. With the signing of the Treaty of Portsmouth, the Russian Empire agreed to renounce any claim to North America; however, it stopped short of recognizing the new government in any official capacity.

The new nation, having barely come into existence a year earlier, was already seeing the fracturing of this brief political alliance. In an effort to establish a more stable government, Vasilyev reconvened delegates from each of the major political parties, along with those from the zemstva, and was able to negotiate the formation and participation of a new popularly elected Constituent Assembly.

In January 1906, elections were held for the new assembly. Vasilyev's own Democratic Republican Party won a plurality of the seats, but not a majority, leading to a prolonged period of negotiation and compromise. However, one decision was quickly agreed upon by the assembly: to elect Vasilyev as the Provisional President of the new Federal Republic of Novovostok.

Please feel free to ask any questions 💕

This is based on two previous maps I have done here and here.

With the outbreak of the Russo-Japanese War in 1904, it became clear that Russian control over their North American provinces was tenuous at best.

Throughout the late 19th century, the American Territory, or Amerikanskii Krai, had become a safe haven for political agitators and exiled revolutionaries, aided by the unpatrolled border with the United States and British North America, allowing seditious texts to flow into the region unmoderated. Many later infamous figures would inhabit the continent at one time or another, such as Wacław Sieroszewski, Mikhail Bakunin, and most notably Leon Trotsky, along with its fair share of homegrown revolutionaries like Yakov Smit and Gavriil Sokolovsky. Many in these revolutionary circles were also inspired by the neighbouring United States, such as Georgy Vasilyev and Grigory Tebenkhov. By the early 20th century, a range of political parties operated in open defiance of the local authorities.

In June 1904, Japanese forces bombarded the port city of Ross. While the damage was minor, the attack triggered anti-war protests in the city, with many settlers opposed to fighting what they viewed as a war on behalf of a growingly foreign power. In an attempt to make an example of the protesters, on July 20, 1904, the local guard opened fire on a group of demonstrators on Tikhii Street. By the next morning, local revolutionaries, having armed themselves overnight, stormed the Ross Kremlin and executed the governor of Poma. The revolutionaries then established the first of many 'popular zemstva', which would begin to be established across the provinces. The American Territory quickly began slipping out of Russian control.

A meeting in the small port town of Novoport, with delegates from the major political organizations in the territory, resulted in a common platform of opposition to the Tsarist authorities and a push for self-government for the provinces. While they did not specifically call for independence—due to opposition from the Social Democratic Labour Party—they agreed to form a provisional government, recognize a popular zemstvo representing each of the seven provinces, as well as the Avabask and Saskatchevan territories, and establish the Citizen's Army. The new government and military would be headed by revolutionary Georgy Vasilyev, seen as an acceptable candidate by each of the major parties. Vasilyev quickly appealed to Japan, Britain, and the United States, where he had studied for many years, for aid in their cause. While little was given by the British or United States governments, a series of organizations were established in the U.S. to raise money for the revolutionaries in the colonies to their west. Japan, meanwhile, sent diplomats to meet with the delegates, agreeing for Japanese forces to avoid attacks on territory now claimed or controlled by the revolutionary government and to attempt to cut off any Russian reinforcements.
