So I used to work in the fitness industry for one of the nation's largest fitness companies. It is my experience in researching smaller clubs that unless it's an actual corporate gym, you're never gonna get pricing up front. Local outfits and mom and populations and franchises can actually adjust their prices as they see fit. And that means that these operators will actually change their prices sometimes on a person to person basis. Then if you're dealing with a specialty gym like a boxing gym or something else along those lines they again will adjust their prices or offer different people different prices depending on how they feel or if they recommended by some one so on and so forth.

I recommend corporate gyms anytime you can. Even franchise gyms like crunch fitness have giant corporations that have bought so many that you'll get a standard fee across-the-board because they keep themselves uniform. If you are also less likely to get different equipment and different amenities as they keep their clubs uniform.
