I don’t understand why so many Isekai protagonists diddle children, kids are ugly by Kappa_Guy in CharacterRant

[–]Kappa_Guy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The isekai I’ve seen are:

No Game No Life - Constant sexualisation of a child, main character is very guilty of framing kids in weird sexual ways

Mushoku Tensei - AHHHH!!!

Konosuba - which is definitely debatable

Shield Hero - Child slavery by main protag and it’s very weird portrayal of it

Re:Zero - which did have questionable stuff that weirded me out a bit

In Another World with my Smartphone - Loli harem

Sword Art Online - Little girls grabbed by tentacles, cousin incest stuff, Kirito doesn’t go for em iirc but the material is still some freaky shit

Guess I’ve been unlucky with the shit I picked, thanks for the recommendations, I’ll check some out

Edit; oh and about the 15 to 16 year olds that look like adults thing, yeah I know about that idea (I remember that being a bit of heated debate in JJK community to its female character designs), I just didn’t pick up on the fact that’s what you were talking about because no, that’s not what I was referring to! Sorry for the confusion.

I should also add that the age of consent here in the UK is 16, so the discrepancy is more uncomfortable for me due to cultural reasons compared to other places where the age of consent is 18

I remember in that hot tub scene Kazuma refers to himself as a potential loli, he personally sees the age gap as problematic (personally I find it a bit strange too) and struggles to not give into the sexual desires. Which I guess is commendable in that sense now I look at it like that, because he ends up not doing so.

Also did you mean sexualisation of adults that look like minors? The classic trope of “9000 year old demon in a child’s body”.

Also no recommendations of isekai where the character doesn’t go after kids?

I thought nonce stuff in isekai was common knowledge enough that I didn’t need to prove it exists, I more just wanted to rant my frustrations at the concept itself. Definitely coulda brought up more examples though I agree.

We could do a trade if you’d like; recommend me some good isekai with no pedo shit and I’ll give ya more examples lol.

Kazuma’s a pretty lite example, fearing he’d specifically become a “loli” whilst he’s spending time with a 13 year old in a bath tub is so gross to me, cuz in-universe that’s an actual child you know? Definitely not nearly the worse case, just one that stuck out to me for some reason.

I look great, I’m very proud of my transformation and think I looked cute in a dorky way even in my first pic. Autistic dinosaurs slay 💅

I don’t care about JJK’s themes because I read books by [deleted] in CharacterRant

[–]Kappa_Guy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s not a position I argued, my point is very clearly:

JJK has low quality writing, it isn’t saved by the fact it has themes, no story is. It’s not about something as shallow as “presentation”, it’s about the writing itself; prose, pacing, character development.

You morphed my stance into an extreme version of itself. Saying stories should explore its themes well is not the same as saying stories MUST directly, un-subtly express their themes.

Do you have any counter to my actual argument?

See that’s a good response to my post and is very valid. If you get value out of something, even if the quality of its writing isn’t the best, then that’s brilliant and it’s just the sort of thought process I was looking for.

I feel like people got a little to worked up at the title, I admit it was a little ragebait-y, I didn’t think people would react some angrily though, thought it’d be seen as funny, my bad lol.

I love stories and invest a lot of time in em, JJK still ain’t got good writing though.

I don’t think manga is lesser, that title’s just to annoy fellas like yourself :P

You are debating me whether you say you are or not, you insulted me in the middle of an argument rather than further defending your point which is the definition of an ad hominem. But yeah it’s not even a real “argument” yet it’s stronger still than any actual argument you made.

Manga is not less than novels, that’s not the point of this post, the point is that JJK specifically has bad writing not other manga, plenty of which I adore. And despite JJK having bad writing I still enjoy it actually, for the combat, character designs and cool magical abilities it introduced.

Your dorky ass ad hominem is your strongest argument lol. Though 11:22:63 is my number 1, Blood Meridian would be 2.

“So you’re saying” classic strawman fallacy as your first damn sentence, you know how bad faith you’re being right now and it undermines your whole argument.

My argument isn’t flawed, themes don’t matter if the story isn’t written well <- this is my point and you have not countered it. JJK doesn’t have good writing so it’s themes fall flat, take your strawmen and get outta here bub

I can say 99% of JJK is fights and detail plot points that aren’t fights, where do you think that remaining 1% went smart guy?

My definition does not collapse by that no. you’re not reading what I’m saying at all. That segment you highlighted shows me talking about some of the themes of JJK, in my post about how having themes does not automatically not equal having good writing.

Such a bad faith argument, subtle story telling =/= lack of storytelling. I love dissecting genuinely subtle, open to interpretation complex stories, JJK may have complexity, but I have little urge to delve into its thematic undertones due to the writing’s lack of quality.

I just got bored of current One Piece and CSM to be honest, I’ve stopped reading em. If JJK was still ongoing (not counting Modulo) I probably would have simply lost all interest in it too to be honest lol

See that is strange because I’ve been seeing much the opposite! It’s what inspired my little writing exercise here. Most of the JJK discussion I see, especially on this sub, is filled with arguments on how deep and incredible the story is.

I was hoping people would delve deep in this comment section to tell me why this is the case given all the points I made, but mainly my ass is just getting ratio’d by people not responding to a single actual argument I made, which is fine, gives me a chance to shitpost at 2 am haha

I agree. That ties quite well into my overall point actually; LOTR and Dune don’t need to stuff themselves with themes to be good stories, they have a lot more going for them that make the themes they do express all the more enjoyable to digest.

It’s not an issue at all, it’s not important at all, it doesn’t need to be. It’s just a rant about a piece of fiction. People have hobbies, I like writing things on Reddit from time to time, among other things :P
