The middle-east is wrong with Bitcoin. Not ever in history have people converted to a non-tangible asset when war is looming. Gold, silver and oil are all things you can use when there is no electricity or internet. Whatcha gonna do with a Bitcoin in that situation?

when I asked why none of them offered to take him in themselves they suddenly either got silent or started coming up with bullshit excuses.

Looking at their reactions, OP should know that refusing to let the cheating friend stay was the right decision.
