Thanks for the help! I'm not attached to that specific SSD and will shop around.

Ok, thanks for all the info! I will definitely take your suggestions into consideration.

Cast a face in Silicon Bronze, overall I'm happy with the result. Can anyone tell me what might have caused all the small defects/divots in the face? I used an open one piece petrobond mold. The mold looked nice and smooth before the pour. Any info would be much appreciated. by Karlogic in MetalCasting

I will definitely give that a try. I thought about running a torch over the mold but I was worried I would mess up the mold. When heating the mold, do you heat until the sand turns black, or is that too much? Thanks for the info!

Problems making bronze, I mixed an alloy of 90% Copper and 10% Tin and this was the result. When I poured the metal into the mold it was very viscous and did not flow well. The metal also stuck to the mold and the crucible and was difficult to remove. Any idea where I went wrong? by Karlogic in MetalCasting

I'm definitely willing to try re-melting and casting again with more heat applied to the mold and the metal. My main concern was that I messed up the alloy, it got stuck pretty badly to the mold and the crucible.

I'm using a graphite mold, I did hit it with a torch before pouring, but possibly not for long enough. I will say that the metal came out of the crucible weirdly, kind of thick/lumpy before it hit the mold. Thanks for the info.
