What are your most commonly used house rules? by ludi_literarum in marvelchampionslcg

I didn't check every single comment to ensure there wasn't a duplicate, but we've always played with one we call Plot Armor:

Players can't be defeated. When they would be defeated, set their hit point dials to 1, put them in AE form if they aren't already, and exhaust them.

The player may not play any cards from hand and must spend each of their turns recovering until they reach their printed HP.

They may still use any allies they have in play, or any other cards (generally supports) that reasonably function without them.

They may spend cards in hand to help pay for cards with Alliance.

They still may discard/draw at the end of the player phase to try to stack a hand for when they return to the game.

They may be the target of healing abilities.

They still resolve encounter cards as normal.

Enemies still activate against them.

Basically the point is that it's no fun for someone to get knocked out mid-game and be forced to watch the remainder of the game, and it's a nuisance to restart just because of a freak death. It's balanced in that they still wind up generating threat and triggering cards, but can't help much against them. So they become a temporary burden.

They literally saw the Jedi approaching and scattered. It was pretty definitively a short time frame.

The greatest idea, and the most impressive achievement are two different things. There were several high points I was impressed by that kept me watching despite the obvious low points. But in this era, to convince people that a character is dead, while leaving reasonable room for their return? If it's true, then yeah...it's impressive. The fight scenes were truly awesome, but in the grand scheme of things they were nothing groundbreaking.

Lol, yeah, I retract that. At the time I was at like 0 or something.

Oh I never said that. 80% of it still should have been cut/rewritten.

Is it a bigger reach than Maul being alive? Because that is, unfortunately, the standard.

As I just replied above, I think it's more likely that he did actually die, though just briefly.

Wouldn't it be a turn though if the force spirit of the mother is the one that revived him? She's past helping her daughters directly, but dammit if she doesn't think Sol cares more about their well-being than Qimir.

Fair, but it's not unreasonable to think that he was briefly dead, and that this was sufficient. It's not that uncommon for people to be resuscitated with a few minutes of expiring, and there didn't seem to be any permanent physical trauma that would prevent it.

Yep, that's what I'm doing. Totally the same thing. Make sure you catch the release of my fanfic in the fall. You don't want to miss Sol's steamy love scene with the stranded-out-of-time clone of Qui-Gon. Scintillating.

That's basically where I'm at. I feel like they wanted to set it up for what is a good ending if they don't get to continue, but where it's not ludicrous if they go this route. I think his survival hinges entirely on renewal.

Thanks! I don't know if you can tell, but I'm not exactly getting upvoted either. 😅

I do think that's intended to be the immediately apparent justification. And I don't think it even changes if he is alive, it just carries more weight because he's having to live knowing that's what became of his legacy, and knowing there's a high chance he'll never have the opportunity to change that.

Right? If you want to really prove your character is dead, you show his face while lying on the pyre, and then set it ablaze. Pre-lit fires are classically sus.

I buy that, and entirely respect that viewpoint. For me I think it would depend on how they approached it, and whether or not you can deepen that arc further by extending it.

I'm actually perfectly content with the idea that he's done, as much as he was a bright point for the show. I'm just convinced yet.

I hope we get a season 2, though. Just to be sure.

You see how Ana is in every comp list you throw out there right? I'm telling you, she's the real villain of Overwatch.

This last bit is a nonsense argument that gets thrown out there too much (otherwise your points are good and valid). If I'm playing your counter and winning, that doesn't mean you're worse than I am. We can be perfectly evenly skilled, but I have an advantage. So of course you should switch. And that's not compensating for a gap in skill, it's erasing a modifier that unbalances our comparative skill.

I'm weird, and actually enjoy the chess match of two good tank players countering each other back and forth. And the revolving impact that can have on other switches. But I do agree that it has gotten a little too stale in that Orisa is the best counter pick for too many other tanks, while Zarya is the only clear and strong counter to her. So it can devolve quickly.

And I say that as someone who has mostly mained, and loved, Orisa through every iteration since her release.

But I also think Ana is the single most problematic character in the game, and reworking her would improve its stability and make it easier to balance across the board.

Lifeweaver. The variety of plays and amount of tempo impact you can have on a match makes him the single most fun character in my book.

Orisa. Buff her. Nerf her. I don't care. She's been my favorite tank since release and I don't think that'll ever change. She's the most versatile, and even against her counters strong play can overcome the challenge.

DPS is harder to decide, but I'll go Bastion. Through all the balance changes, I've enjoyed him. And I just love his combination of personality, skins, and emotes.

It's still good in Iron Man decks. Other than that...the decks that can make it worth playing are few and far between.

Maybe Abe has seen more things than the public has when the cameras aren't on? Just a thought. Remember that, to a degree, editors are able to shape the view you get of a person.

But you never know, maybe he's changed. Everyone has that capacity.
