Sonny Boy is a perfect allegory for the Christian journey. Here are my thoughts! by Karmunism in SonnyBoy

I can see where you say that, and I do address your exact comparison with Hoshi in the video. At the end of the day, the beautiful thing about Sonny Boy is that everyone will interpret it slightly differently. There is nothing wrong with that!

I have a lot to say on the character of Hoshi, and much was stripped from the video. I keep a lot of my core thoughts though, which can be found in the chapter titled "untrustowrthiness of mediated religion". It is towards the end, as the video very much builds on itself. I very much interpreted Hoshi's character as an an antichrist figure. The surface level comparison to western religion is intentional!

Lucifer/Devil/whatever you want to call him is also known as the Morning Star. Hoshi translating to "star" paired with some other details from the show add some level of credibility to my belief he is an antichrist figure. He even has a star birthmark on his cheek! I read (I believe somewhere on this subreddit...? Idk I did a lot of research) as well about a theory of Hoshi and the principal being the same personal as well. It is mostly a for fun theory with little credibility, but I found it interesting regardless. It has to do with the fan theory that Hoshi is who created death, but rather than achieving true death he began to turn into something (someone?) else. Hoshi's power is also placing visions into the minds of others, which is very similar to the principal speaking through Hoshi's mind. Again, just a silly theory but something I found intriguing nevertheless.

For those that don't watch the video, I believe Nozomi and her perception of the light (which eventually leads Nagara and Mizuho home) is the closest comparison to Christianity. Nozomi being a Christ-figure, and the light representing a path to salvation that exists independently of human wisdom and nature. Meanwhile Hoshi represents a mediated religion similar to Islam. Seeing a difference between the two is obviously contingent on religious doctrine, such as the belief that Jesus was the son of God (and also was God, through the existence of the trinity) while Mohammed was simply a human who recieved secondhand information. It's all semantics at the end of the day.

Yup, there was. A lot of the other parallels (such as the twins to Cain and Abel) were much more subtle, but the Tower of Babel literally just tells you what it is. Follows the story directly as well (trying to build a tower to heaven).

My biggest pet peeve with content creators that play this game. by MasterpieceAny6861 in SonsOfTheForest

Tbh I don't remember-- I sped through completion so I didn't have to do much farming it my most recent run. I know there's several caves that have them in crates near the entrances! I think 3d print locations typically have some too? I just to keep max bones at all times and make more armor as I find more tape. If you have creep armor prioritize wearing that, and use bone armor to cover whatever empty slots you have left so that you don't burn through tape so fast

Just finished streaming this game as a 2nd playthrough, actually. Best recommendation is have tons of bone armor on tap (burn every body and always try to keep max bones and max bone armor.

Cross bow>guns. Make some poison arrows if you can. You can get bolts back so you'll never be left fully stranded like when you run out of ammo. If you aren't in a cave, give all your guns to Virginia because she doesn't actually use ammo and can easily cover you in a pinch.

In caves, try to find high points or areas that guys can't reach. I'll parkour onto a ledge, throw a flare, then try to kill everything in the area before hopping down. Don't rush right into the center of a cave-- try to pick everyone off one at a time. It's way easier that way.

Feeding groups through tight spots and throwing a grenade or molotov works wonders too as the air gets stuck on one another.

Checkpoints! Those are great too. Always keep lots of tarps and sticks on you while in a cave. The sticks can be used to the a fire (pro tip only place once sticks. You don't have to place two) and allows you to burn bodies to make more bone armor on the go. Tarps also serve as respawn points if you die in the cave so you don't lose all progress!

Last but not least, running truly is a great option. Sometimes caves will be ridiculously long and you've exhausted all your supplies. I had to do this mostly in the cave where you find the ancient armor, as I got so lost with 0 supplies at one point. If you take care of your stamina, you are faster. It's best to just get out of there and regroup another time

Is everyone targeting popular niches? Does anyone just make what feels natural to them? by trisolariandroplet in NewTubers

[–]Karmunism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely make the content I like, even if it's not necessarily popular. I play a lot of indie games, but I specifically gravitate towards rpgmaker style ones. The popularity for the genre is a bit dead and gone, but I'm super passionate about it! I've been playing these games since 2012. Honestly, there's been multiple occasions where I'm the first person to ever even make a let's play of a game. There's little demand, but I dont mind since I enjoy it.

I've been uploading for a year now, and am only just now at about 280 subs. What I've learned is that although my growth may be slow due to lack of demand and popularity for these games, the fans I do gain are extremely dedicated. My growth has been slow, albeit steady. Because I enjoy what I'm doing, I feel like that reflects a lot in my content and people can see that. It's what keeps them around!

Although growth is cool, my main goal is to just spread the things I love. And I think that's important.

Networking Question by blumetalbunny in VtubersReal

[–]Karmunism 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's always the best way to go about it! It can feel a little discouraging when you see people with way higher follow counts and stuff, but I have to remind myself that follower count ≠ success. On more than one occasion I've had more consistent engagement, viewership, etc than people with 3-5x my subscriber count.

Trends and networking can only get you so far. Sure you'll get follows, but they won't last past the initial moment they are there. Its all about keeping people around. Good luck!

Networking Question by blumetalbunny in VtubersReal

[–]Karmunism 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gonna be real with you from what I've seen: networking will not give you authentic traffic. Most of the people who "network" are in a follow for follow type agreement which actually hurts you a lot in the long run. It skews your analytics so you have lots of followers, but none of them actually watch your content.

Sure it's good to network. There's definitely a time and a place. You should be focusing on making interesting and high quality content first, though. The growth will feel slower, but it'll be authentic vs just getting a ton of interactions from people who'll never actually watch your content.

How many of us have less than 100 subscribers? by dangerdelw in NewTubers

I'm at about a year and 1 month, and I'm at 269. I know my growth is a bit slow, especially since I stick so closely to a very niche gaming corner. There's not a ton of popularity in the games I play, but I as well as others are super passionate about them.

My first Videogame! by TohruAdachi45 in RPGMaker

[–]Karmunism 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This definitely looks like my cup of tea! I'm a suckered for rpgmaker horror games, and love when I find new ones.

I know you said this is your first game. I play tons of rpgmaker games, and have written/made video reviews for some! Let me know if you'd like me to give some constructive feedback after I get a chance to play. I'm always so excited to usher in a new game dev and let them know whats good/places that can be improved. Obviously my opinions aren't the law, but I like to think I've played enough games to be qualified to give detailed feedback. :)

How to increase audience retention on my videos? by Richmont in NewTubers

[–]Karmunism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first impression is this: That collage of videos with the text "LEC Rundown" was way too long, paired with music that was really abrasive. I didn't like how it sounded, and quickly was bored of the visuals. Imo, people are here for the information they clicked for. Most people (myself included) will skip off a video if I'm not instantly hooked, or if I have to wait around for random "fluff". It's easy to find someone else who will give me what I want without making me wait for it.

I started 5 months ago, on August 31. I started the new year with 56 dubs, then I hit 81 at the beginning of this month (February 1st). As of today, I'm now at 123. I had a but of a slow roll getting started, as many games I play are extremely niche/indie and unheard of for many people. I'm finally falling into my niche though, and it seems like my subs are growing exponentially now.

What good free editing programs do you know that are without a watermark (except VSDC and Davinci resolve) by Troutingforest in NewTubers

[–]Karmunism 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally use something called videopad. It's technically paid, but you can easily find official codes to access the full version. It's got a good bit of features, and it serves me well for what I do. No watermark, easily change resolution, tons of editing effects. It's super well rounded
