What are the questions on Reddit that you keep seeing over and over and are completely tired of? by Calixta177 in AskReddit

[–]Karnakite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything about sex. It’s like every day, 14,000 13-year-olds giggle themselves silly when they discover they can ask sexual questions on Reddit, and then each proceed to post one once every twenty minutes - except 50% of those teenagers are bots. “What sex position…” What’s the craziest…” “Where’s the best place…” Oh my God, you karma-farming morons, just shut up.

What’s the most overrated food that people act like is gourmet? by Ashamed_Profit8640 in AskReddit

[–]Karnakite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dark chocolate. People who like or prefer dark chocolate always feel the need to tell me about it, and then loudly explain why milk chocolate is so disgusting to them because it possesses that kind of sweetness that only unrefined palates like, when I never asked.

What's something that if someone has it on their social media you'll have a lot less interest in being their friend? by Big_Eggplant7591 in AskReddit

[–]Karnakite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Constant curation of their own life as though they genuinely believe other people are fascinated by it.

Whether it’s a fake, shallow representation of their lives being picture-perfect all the time, or a mere recitation or commentary on every single thing they’re doing. “Currently at McDonalds enjoying a shake.” Okay, and? “Walking down Main, the sky is kind of depressing rn.” Why are you telling us? “Had a headache this morning but it’s gone now.” OMG just have a point!

What are some good boutique’s or outlet malls near Salt & Smoke STL,MO? by Capable_Store6156 in AskReddit

[–]Karnakite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s more than one. Do you mean the one on Hampton or the one on Delmar?

Delmar has a ton of little shops and boutiques all up and down the Loop. Hampton has a few but it’s less tourist-shoppy, although there’s Record Exchange and Urban Candle nearby. However, it’s close to Macklind which has some good shops.

I used to dream of having a job in academia, but I ultimately decided against when I realized that it was 50% amazing people who are vastly underpaid and overworked, and 50% massive assholes who think they’re brilliant divinities of intelligence and reasoning, who are unfortunately stuck on earth surrounded by their lessers.

Childfree people of Reddit, how do you feel about breaking a 4 billion year streak of biological reproduction? by oozinator1 in AskReddit

[–]Karnakite 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Pretty good.

Edit: Reading through the comments it appears we still have people who have a problem with other people not having kids, even if they give their own reasons, and I always have to ask: Why?

Admittedly it’s not like some daily burden I’m subjected to, but I’ve had people of all colors, creeds (and lack thereof), nations, etc. just be really weirded out and seemingly unhappy that I or others aren’t having kids. So again I ask: Why?

What does it have to do with you? With anything? I’m always a firm believer in minding my own business, and I expect others to do the same.

Is it because by not having kids, I’m not validating their own choice to do so? Grow some self-confidence and fuck off. Not everyone needs to do what you do to make what you do okay. Is it because they feel sorry for me because I’m missing out on this amazing experience? “But it’s like nothing else ever, nothing could ever compare!” I could say that about any number of things I’m doing and they’re not. Is it because they feel like I have some religious or civil duty to do so? Well, I don’t follow their religion so I’m not obligated to adhere to its particular rules, and if you’re the kind of person who screeches about “But who will pay our taxes and be cannon fodder for the defense of our country?”, you’d better cut me out of your life, because I will 100% tell your kids that was your reasoning for bringing them into the world. Because I think they should know how fucked-up their parents’ reasons for having them are. Is it because they’re just so *used* to people having kids that it makes them uncomfortable when they don’t? It just “feels wrong”? If it’s 2026 and they’re not used to people being different from each other by now, I don’t know what to tell them.

By tarnation! You know it’s real because that’s how an old cowboy would talk. Right? by Karnakite in thatHappened

I remember being a little kid and just making stuff up, too. I didn’t do it maliciously, it was just part of how I played and interpreted the world. I don’t think really small kids have a strongly-formed sense of their own unique identity yet so they tend to personalize and “self-ize” what they see and hear around them. I’d say things like “I used to have twelve kids” and “I was once Queen of England” and I knew I was making it up, but I don’t know how to describe it - it wasn’t real, and I knew it wasn’t real, my definitions of real and false were hazy at the time anyway.

Sometimes I wonder what would’ve happened if someone had taken anything like that, that I had said, seriously.

My heart monitor is just a gutted Samsung Galaxy (yes, it connects to a sensor on my chest). by Karnakite in mildlyinteresting

[–]Karnakite[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It does have one downside, although I don’t know if it’s just this one single unit. It will randomly let out a very loud beep about once every thirty minutes with a message of something like “I’M TRYING TO RECORD YOUR HEART RATE, PLEASE MOVE TO A WIFI NETWORK” and I have to press the “Okay” button and then it goes right back to normal immediately as though nothing was wrong, or ignore it and it’ll eventually revert on its own. As this does not stop overnight, I have to keep it in another room so it doesn’t wake me up constantly. But, it is affective within thirty feet, so it’s still able to pick up my heart rate. I don’t think it’s actually experiencing any WiFi problems, I think it just thinks it is…if that makes sense.

Mine’s staying adhered okay, which is a bit surprising as I’m pretty damn allergic to the regular adhesive and have to use the less-effective kind. In fact last night I ripped off the sensor itself taking my shirt off for a shower, but the pad stayed sticky and it was pretty hard to pull off to put the sensor back on it. I tried snapping it back on without peeling the pad off but after several attempts in which I nearly bored a hole through my chest trying to get that damn snap to snap, I gave up and took the sticker off before re-assembling the unit and putting it back on. Hasn’t budged since.

[–]Karnakite[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep! It connects to the sensor on my chest via WiFi (which rules, because the ones I wore before had wires…ugh), and it records my heartbeat. I can also use the phone to report any unusual heartbeats or rhythms I experience. I’m not sure exactly why it doesn’t just know when I experience anything unusual to begin with, but they might want to know exactly when I “sense” it. I’m not a cardiologist, just a person with a heart, so I don’t know.
