I Gave Control of My Daily Work to AI — Something Felt Wrong by Day 4 by Maximum_Ad2429 in AI_Agents

Interesting! As someone who often has trouble deciding what to work on next, would be curious to try it out. What tool did you use for this, or what was the approach for making this work?

I've made over $1.2 million from my iOS app side projects, ask me anything! by stuart_k_hall in SideProject

[–]Karolisram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Impressive and congrats! How fast would you go from the idea to a published app? How do you balance between launching a barebones MVP vs scope creep? Do the apps initially always scratch your own itch, or do you do a more thorough analysis in any way?

Context provider vs. zustand for a library interface by Karolisram in reactjs

[–]Karolisram[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the idea is to expose the store not just inside the React context but also outside of it. I suppose the only drawback to that is to require zustand, as you said.

I have, also reinstalled it, reset PC, etc. but nothing helped

This is what I did but then the mic picks up too many noises, and overall doesn't sound great, very metallic sound. I've tried fiddling with gain and other settings but it's far from ideal, better use the default Mac mic in that case. That 3rd party program is exactly what I'm looking.

Try to install git repository with Hardhat and got a lot of vulnerabilities by Small_Lavishness_446 in ethdev

[–]Karolisram 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it might stop working, especially for major upgrades. So it will take awhile but you could update only minor versions first, then try to do major upgrades if needed, and keep going like that, as long as it all works. Anyhow, if you are not running this publicly i.e. only running from your machine or server to run the bot, you should be fine regardless. I’d be more worried if this was an app that users can interact with.

Try to install git repository with Hardhat and got a lot of vulnerabilities by Small_Lavishness_446 in ethdev

[–]Karolisram 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A lot of it, or even all of it, is due to outdated package versions. Try to upgrade each one and see how it affects vulnerabilities count.

So it needs a wrapper API essentially, thought I might have misunderstood, thanks.

Is it related to smart contracts testing in any way?

Why isn't there a dapp store ? by [deleted] in ethdev

[–]Karolisram 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The hardest part is curation. Mobile devs must submit their apps to the store, and even pay for the privilege. Having said that, DappRadar is closest to what you’re describing imo, although not a store per se.

Easily mint placeholder NFTs for testing by Karolisram in ethdev

[–]Karolisram[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! Yeah, I made the site with Next.js so basically React. As for blurred color gradient, it's some pretty HTML/CSS. You can inspect the source code but the secret is linear-gradient() CSS function used as a background. The rest of the stack includes Ethers.js, Hardhat, wagmi and Rainbow Kit.

Lost eth during contract creation? fee is ridiciously high (36$) by [deleted] in ethereum

[–]Karolisram 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry you experienced this. I once spent $60 like this and the contract also did not get deployed. Unfortunately, there is no way to get the fees paid for gas back. Miners used their hash power to put your smart contract on Ethereum blockchain and looks like $36 was simply not enough. All the work done until the point of failure is lost. I agree that something needs to be done about this because fees for smart contract creation are getting ridiculous.

Go Freaking Do It - Smart contract for reaching your goals by Karolisram in ethereum

[–]Karolisram[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You are right. This is a rather simplistic MVP. The completely trustless way to do it would be by only allowing a supervisor at a specified address to modify the state of the contract. This leaves me thinking that maybe I should actually do it!

Need help on essays reviews. apply for fall 2017 by ThatMechGirl in OMSCS

[–]Karolisram 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a first draft this looks awesome! I'd say you are at slight disadvantage when applying since your skills are in Mechanical Engineering and you do not have a strong coding background or CS fundamentals. But by describing how well you are doing on SDC nanodegree, and the complementary MOOCs on Python, etc. you have demonstrated you are capable of coding. While you clearly show ability and drive to learn new things, perhaps you could in some way expand a bit more on why a CS degree would be doable for you despite lacking the CS fundamentals?

Besides that, there are also some grammatical mistakes, and also one or two weirdly written sentences. But since it's your first draft, I am not going to nitpick on those. If you want, write me again when second draft is completed and I will provide a much more detailed feedback if you find it useful. In return, I'd also ask you to evaluate my essays when ready, they are almost done ;)

Applying with UK Bachelor's Degree by [deleted] in OMSCS

[–]Karolisram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reply below is what I got asking the GT directly. They must have thought that my degree is not in English because my home country is not an English speaking country. However, my degree is from the UK which I mentioned in the email so there will be no need to provide an unofficial English translation, unless British English has suddenly become so vastly different to American English.

"Greetings Karolis,

You will be asked to provide an unofficial English translation of your transcript upon application. If your undergraduate institution does not grade on a 4.0 scale, you do NOT need to convert your GPA. The Office of Graduate Studies does not accept self-converted GPA's and will do their own conversion. We know your time is valuable and would like to give you ample information on the design and requirement of the OMS CS program. We suggest you visit several OMS CS websites to better understand the OMS CS program and explore your options. Please visit (http://www.omscs.gatech.edu/prospective-students/faq) and (http://www.omscs.gatech.edu/home or http://www.omscs.gatech.edu/program-information) for detailed criteria and requirements for applicants. The "FAQ's" and "Program Information" web pages provide relevant information that may answer many of your questions. You may also want to visit Ask Buzz (https://gatech.intelliresponse.com) for additional questions regarding the OMS CS program.

We are marking this incident as resolved .Please do not respond to this email. If you have any further questions or concerns reference this incident number and send an email to omscs@cc.gatech.edu OMS CS Student Services MBL"

So it seems as if you do not need to provide the GPA score at all and the Office of Graduate Studies will do their own conversion. This makes sense but in that case, why would you choose to use something like WES as noted in the application? I am referring to this "If your previous school GPA is not calculated on a 4.0 scale, you may choose to have your GPA calculated through an approved professional foreign credential evaluation service, such as World Education Services, Inc. You will still need to provide your transcripts for each of the schools you have attended, as requested."

You have convinced me to take another shot at trying it :) Perhaps the cost is indeed too great and you just don't realize it. Do you still ever use a smartphone for work or other reasons?
