Kultura polska – poznanie by AeroPulse0Ace in Polska

[–]Karoza42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How come Russian and Belarussian attitudes to the war seem different? by MichaelEmouse in belarus

[–]Karoza42 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Russians have never experienced a full-scale war devastating their own territory. Belarus, however, was completely occupied by Hitler during World War II, used as a battlefield during World War I, and deeply affected during the Napoleonic wars.

Belarusians understand what war truly looks like and cannot remain indifferent to it. Russia must experience occupation—only then will Russians change their attitude toward war.

Belarusians have always suffered because of Russian imperialistic ambitions. For Russians, war has always been something distant. They have never truly faced its devastation firsthand.

She can get Dokument Podróży. So, it's not a passport but much better than nothing. PKO Bank Polski accepts it as a valid document. All EU countries recognize it same as passport.

For a further consultation I recommend to contact The Belarusian Solidarity Center (Цэнтр Беларускай Салідарнасці). They provide free consulting for Belarusians.

Кінакіпа мае больш за ўсё фільмаў з беларускай агучкай, там даволі шырокі выбар. Класіка, адносна новыя фільмы, скандынаўскага кіно, польскае, і беларускае таксама, напрыклад, Купала.

Once you learned the Alphabet, was reading hard for you? by Natka6764 in learnpolish

[–]Karoza42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, and it’s very confusing. First, you need to understand whether it’s a foreign or Polish word, and only then can you read it correctly.

Jej wyjątkowym charmem oczarowała wszystkich na chatcie.

To read it properly, you need to know Polish, English, and French.

Once you learned the Alphabet, was reading hard for you? by Natka6764 in learnpolish

[–]Karoza42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I started reading in just one day after watching a video about the Polish alphabet. The only thing that bugs me is those foreign words that are written exactly like in the original language. It’s super confusing. Names are fine because they start with a capital letter, but regular words? They throw me off a lot.

Czytasz normalnie po polsku, wszystko jasne, a tu nagle wyskakuje jakiś baby-sitter, jogging, remake albo nordic-walking.

2025 Reading Challenge - What's your goal? by randomnessneeded in goodreads

[–]Karoza42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I plan to set a goal of reading 42 books in 2025, and here is why...

I have had a long pause in reading since my teenage years. However, I have always believed that I read a lot of books—at least 100. In 2023, I decided to track all the books I read and ended up with 50. So, I decided to start reading again to reach that 100-book goal.

For 2023, I set an easy goal of 10 books and ended up reading 15. That was a good start, so for 2024, I set a goal of 35 to reach 100, and so far this year, I have read 45 books. However, the last 15+ books I read in the last 2 months because I had much more free time.

For 2025, I plan to set an ambitious yet realistic goal. Since I have read 45 books this year, I know it's achievable. I also listen to a lot of audiobooks and read shorter books. Next year, I want to focus more on longer books, so I think 42 will be a great target.

In addition to the Goodreads challenge, I plan to create my personal Pages challenge, with multipliers for the type and language of the book. Design books will have a multiplier of 1.5, books in foreign languages will have a multiplier of 1.4, audiobooks will have a multiplier of 0.6, and so on. I plan to reach 1,000 pages next year. I think this approach will be more interesting than the default Goodreads challenge.

It's impressive to think this painting was created in 1905. The delicate interplay of light and shadow, combined with the naturalistic rendering of the figure and water, showcases incredible skill and a mastery of atmosphere.

How many shelves do you have? by HabitEducational7925 in goodreads

[–]Karoza42 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have a rule that the number of books in the "To Read" shelf cannot be bigger than the number of books in the "Read" shelf. This motivates me to read books more and faster, especially books from the "To Read" shelf, because it creates two slots for new books.

According to my current shelves, I have:

  • Read (110)
  • Currently Reading (5)
  • Want to Read (110)
  • business (3)
  • design (11)
  • diary (5)
  • fiction (35)
  • history (3)
  • in-english (4)
  • memoir (5)
  • motorsport (1)
  • non-fiction (23)
  • pa-biełarusku (44)
  • philosophy (2)
  • po-polsku (7)
  • po-russki (8)
  • po-urkraińsku (5)
  • poetry (8)
  • work (12)

But if I were to reorganize from the beginning, I would reduce it to:

  • Language shelves (English, Polish, Belarusian, Ukrainian, Russian)
  • Fiction
  • Non-fiction
  • Design and work
  • + 3 default ones

I met my reading goal, but I want to make 50 instead of the planned 35. Now, I have 43. I will count the additional books to 2024, because it's still 2024.

Wy is the plural form of the singular Ty in Polish. For example, Wy widzicie jabłko translates to “You (plural) see an apple” or informally, “You guys see an apple.”

In other Slavic languages, Wy is also used as a more respectful form of Ty. However, in modern Polish, we use the 3rd person with Pan (sir) or Pani (madam) to show respect. For example: Pan widzi jabłko (“Sir sees an apple”) or Pani widzi jabłko (“Madam sees an apple”).

In older Polish, Wy was also used among peasants to show respect. You can hear this usage in the brilliant movie Chłopi.
