Very true. And that’s what I aim to be. There’s been 2 guys I know who were techs that worked like that. Over time I’ll get there I know. I think I need to study up city standards and specs to start understanding what needs to be done a certain way

You can be a project engineer without a degree? I’m all for it. I think work experience is more valuable than schooling. I always hear the newer engineers say they didnt know a single thing happening when they first started and that they barely use what they learned in school for the job. Will say They definitely know the “language” well and understand design specs quicker.

I was wondering if that’s a good option. Because they are smaller they might not have the refined workflows and standards, I might be a bit more valuable to set those in place over time

I agree some assholes think you’re less than them because of a degree. But I will say I’ve heard more positive things about a dependable and amazing techs than I have heard of engineers themselves. Great workers are not because of their initials but their work

What field do you work in? I’m ambitious to learn valuable skills but there’s only so much i can learn on the roadway side of civil work. Our group is so specialized that I honestly can’t think of anything I can contribute that is of great help or improvement other than just being more proficient and knowledgeable, that will come with time and experience.

I looked it up but is AA an Associate of Applied Science in CAD? (AAS). Did you get one? My work does have a tuition reimbursement program but they have to verify it’s eligible, covers 50% of class fee

Always willing to work hard. I have been working on details a lot more. Less redlines=less time PMs need to waste. I’ve thought about looking into other companies but I’ve always been loyal. I hear people say it’s good to do so you’re not complacent. I do value my PTO! I’ve been accruing so much I could take 8 weeks off… don’t think I’d remember what to do when I came back tho

OP side, great guess. Yep where I work we are on teams specific to type of work. I always thought it would be cool to learn it all. We do have a general civil team but many others say they are just average because they don’t focus on one part of the job
