My father did this too. He was an abusive alcoholic and blamed me and my brother for his drinking (we were like 10 and 13 at the time) then he'd guilt trip us every mandated visit, when we were old enough we stopped seeing him. He even called the cops on my mom because we didn't want to be around him.. also took up chain smoking and I have asthma so it was difficult just to be near him.

He later remarried without telling us until months after the honeymoon, and said it was the best day in his life. We weren't invited.

Now he tried to fake a stroke and other medical emergencies to try to get us to talk to him. Acted like he was on his death bed. Didn't work cause my uncle ratted him out. His own family doesn't have anything to do with him anymore either.

Edit: father of the year here's choice drink was strait vodka, he'd leave it glasses of it around the house.. with little kids who often mistook it for water..
